Feel for the guy. Promised funds and all that. Can't blame him.

Can see a few board out chants from the Forest fans next home game, been promised funds for ages and they never come.

been given the gooey end of a shitty stick and can see his reputation (such as it is in this country) is going to flushed down the bog. predessor had similar complaints but everyone thought it was just him moaning.

oh well, one less club to challenge us.

So the board didn't throw money at him to compete this season, thus making his job (that he's paid handsomely to do) a little harder. Poor little idiot - didn't he flounce in exactly the same way at Wolfsburg? Sod 'considering his position' at Forest, he should quit football in general.

No different to how Billy Davies had it,they promised him loads and gave him nothing but he kept them competetive!

Exactly. Sometimes, when times are tough, the managers job is to manage the team he's got. In the way umpteen Brighton managers have had to do in the past. I get f***ed off with manager who demand vast financial backing every season - it should be about that. You should, if you're any good (And Forest aren't bad) be able to make yourself competitive.

Truth is though, McLaren must have said he requires x amount of pounds to assemble a title challenging squad, and in the job interview been promised it, only for it to not transpire in reality.

I heard McLaren's beef was that they left the H out of his christian name, on the nameplate on his office door.

It read Steve McLaren, when it should of course have read Shteve McLaren.
I think he has a point, personally.

They were talking about this on Talksport this morning and the hack whom joins Brazil and Irani said something along the lines of.....

I can understand McClaren's position if he just can't get any funds he is never going to compete with the likes of Leicester and Brighton:)

Do you really think that TB had hired Gus, then given him no money for players, that he would have stayed ? I think not. He has said he'll stay whilst we match his ambitions - but if he hadn't got what he'd been promised, I'm sure he would have walked too. But it does mean Forrest shouldn't be in contention this year, so that's good for us.

Whilst I understand your point, I think the Forest situaution is a little different. McLaren inherited a team that is more than capable in this league, he has spent £2m on a couple of players, which isn't a lot, but is more than most Championship teams! Forest haven't lost any of their star players either so should still be strong enough to challenge.

Agreed, but maybe the Forest board have re-done their sums and realised that in the current financial climate they may have oversold the club to McClaren? That may have been a bit naughty but it's better he knows the truth now as opposed to the club giving in to his (and the fans) demands and spending money they haven't got. See the 'Plymouth finnished' thread for the end result of that scenario: in eighteen months' time Peter Risdale will show up, the club will be on the verge of bankruptcy and everybody will be saying "it's not the fans' fault".

I thought Forest overachieved last season. And I tipped Forest to go up as Steve McLaren would somehow get an extra 9 points out of the side which might be good enough. With a poor start this is somewhat negated.

If they could sort out how to defend , especially at set pieces, they wouldn't be that bad a team.

I think he should stop moaning and get on with it personally.

This. This. This.

Gus wasn't exactly given an open chequebook for the first year of his job - there were at least four clubs who had a larger wage and transfer budget, and look how well he did! None of the three managers who took sides up from The Championship last season spent anywhere near as much as many of their rivals either.

I can understand Shteeeeeve's frustration about false promises, but this time he could either bail out as a bit of a coward or improve his profile by showing how well he can do with limited resources. He won the Dutch league with a smallish club, so why not get on with his job and try to prove a few of his English doubters wrong?

Haven't they let go about 9 players though, and only got a couple in on frees. The team can't be so strong after losing all those

(I'm not particularly bothered either way, so not after an argument!!)
