Just been viewing the NUFCBLOG site and it appears Alan Pardew is set on a clear out at NUFC. Following is a qoute from him to local press in Newcastle -
This is what Alan Pardew said last night about fringe players:

“We have a strong squad and some at the fringes will have to leave,” “They will not get to the first team.”

“I will make it clear to some to either stay and be a squad player of go elsewhere if they want to be first team players.”

Another player likely to move on is 20 year-old winger Kazenga LuaLua and Brighton look like his likely destination, and Wayne Routledge will also follow him out of the club before September.

Some of the fans comments seem a bit hacked off about KLL possibly leaving. Mentions Nile Ranger also being available for £1M. Personally dont rate him and he appears to be a bit high maintenance - Pardew kicked him out of Southampton and now Newcastle - has an attitude problem apparently.

I wouldn't take anything from NUFCBLOG as being 'official' or 'in the know' personally, mind. There are loads of blogs like that about us and none know anything more than what is being said in the papers really.

Which one, Pardew or Ranger?

I think this is an old article because Pardews said that Routledge could be staying at Newcastle.

They can keep Ranger - I listened to Pardew on BBC Newcastle radio ion the player and Pardew said he would be having a clearout - I still think LuaLua will join late in the transfer widow.

Same, I think we'll panic and let him go at the end of August when it dawns on those in charge that he'll be leaving for a very small amount next Summer.

Nile Ranger looked excellent for us in the Championship. He only grabbed a couple but he contributed well, held the ball up and looked strong in the air. His attitude lets him down though, I'm not sure how true it is but the word up here was that the club had to move him out of the city centre and into the sticks so he didn't go on the piss every night. I hope Ranger makes it at NUFC but unless he changes his attitude and gets his arse into gear he isn't going to! A 12 month loan to a club in the Championship would be very beneficial.

just heard from a good source that there was issues in his medical so we want a 5/6 month loan, until Jan window and if he ok will buy him then. Newcastle are not 100% happy with this, so not sure where it is going........

I don't see us getting Lua Lua unless Newcastle jump to our tune as it appears we are not willing to risk buying him if the failed medical rumour is true. I guess if nobody else will buy him outright they may be inclined to loan him to us at the beginning of the season. If Gus is willing to wait that long which I think he might not be given the inherent risk anyway if the ankle is not 100%.

Edit I appear to be echoing the poster above who has just posted much the same at exactly the same time

Hope it happens and Newc don't have a choice as KLL only wants to come here... :) Let's hope!

NUFC's fringe players facing axe in revamp - NUFC Latest News - Newcastle United - ChronicleLive

ALAN PARDEW has admitted it is crunch time for some of his Newcastle United fringe players.

United stars have been filing back to the club’s Benton training base in groups this week in order to undergo fitness tests, with the real grindstone of pre-season starting tomorrow when the Magpies will train together for the first time.

However, several players have been told they are surplus to requirements on Tyneside and can leave the club, including Leon Best, Nile Ranger, Alan Smith and Kazenga LuaLua.

The Chronicle understands that Wayne Routledge was also told to forget about a long-term future with Newcastle yesterday.

Smith is contracted to 2012, while Best and Routledge have two years left on their contracts and Ranger’s deal runs to 2016.

And the Toon boss said today: “There will be a couple of decisions that will have to be made.

“It is about accepting your role in the squad. We have players like Joey Barton and Fabricio Coloccini who will be expecting to play every game.

“But we also need players who will need to make competition for places below that group.

“Some may not see a lot of football.”

Best’s contributions last season in between ankle problems resulted in a respectable record of six goals in 10 games, but Ranger failed to get off the mark in the Premier League despite several good chances to do so.

Smith’s season was decimated after a tackle from Kieran Richardson in the Tyne-Wear derby that resulted in an ankle injury, but the Yorkshireman would face an almighty battle to get into Pardew’s midfield engine room.

Smith is regarded at St James’ Park as a “model professional” and wouldn’t dream of letting anybody down, while Best and Ranger may feel they have something to prove.

Routledge spent half of last season on loan at Queens Park Rangers but the Londoners pulled the plug on a permanent deal, citing “other priorities” as the reason why.

LuaLua is wanted by Brighton, where he has spent time on loan, but the two clubs have yet to come to an arrangement, with both loan and permanent deals mooted for the winger, who has a year left on his contract.

Reflecting on how he will deal with his fringe men, Pardew said: “It is up to them if they are prepared to stay and be in that role – or move on. Those are the types of conversations I will be having with the players involved over the next seven or eight days.”

From today.

Silly old bat
Strangely desperate for this to happen even though hes not fit!!

I remember Gus commenting around February that he wasn't happy with the medical treatment that KLL was getting (and was unlikely to play again for us that season)
I suspect with our better medical team (imo) that we could get him fit again even if it meant surgery. I hope we can still get him.

Gus has already stated that he isn't prepared to hang around for LuaLua (brinkmanship?). He says that he has other targets in mind if the deal can not be closed speedily. I would guess that if Lua-Lua is not with us by the time the squad leave for Portugal Gus may pull the plug.

On the upside if Gus is playing smoke and mirrors, Lua Lua could easily fit into our playing style having been a big part of early last season.

Fingers crossed!
