At least you're being honest - I feel some on here may be have selective memory!

I can top that though. Technically, my first gig was The Spinners (the Liverpool folk band rather than the better 'Detroit' Motown band) as I accompanied my parents when they had a spare ticket.

The first one I paid for was at Selhurst Park to see the Status Quo 'End of the road' farewell tour in 1983 when they were supported by the fairly impressive line up of Little Steven (aka Stevie Van Zandt of Springsteen and Sopranos fame), Dave Edmunds, Phil Lynott and the slightly less impressive but surprisingly entertaining, Chas & Dave.

Mine should have been Hanoi Rocks in Portsmouth but the drummer died and gig got cancelled. It ended up being Dumpy's Rusty Nuts at The Richmond. Not sure if this counts as it was little more than a pub gig. First proper gig was Magnum at The Eastborne Winter Gardens. This started a series which still sees me gigging very regularly to this day. My taste has broadened somewhat as well :)

Think it was 89 as they played Donnington as lowly support in 88 and hadn't yet cracked it.

Guns & Roses that is from an earlier post.

I was at the GnR Donnington gig. The band were breaking at this time, but as you say were very low on the bill. The subsequent rush to see them resulted in a crush and two people died.

An amazing start looking back - Hollis was so serious and intense. It was clear that he wasn't overly keen on performing live but little did I know they'd never do another tour again.

I still bloody love their last few albums.

I saw Oasis there in 94 with primal scream and The Lars.

I saw them there supported by Ride in January 1995 and round the back at "the top rank suite"? in 94 on the day Ireland beat Italy in the world cup in New York - they came on about 5 minutes after the final whistle, funny that.....

I was just to young to see the Jam, massive regret not seeing them as they are up there with the very best ever, saw Paul Weller at the K2 in crawley a couple of years back and it was full of Jam fans wearing the Ben Shermans etc, it was fairly quiet until Going Underground came on and them the place erupted!!

The Jam used to seriously kick arse live, one of the greats - never forget their Funeral Pyre tour that took in The Rainbow in Finsbury Park, first time they'd had a horn section, I remember shitting myself bunking the train from Southend to queue for tickets and then again for the show.....

Ok, sorry for pigging this tread the past 5 posts or so but it's a subject close to my heart - my first gig and one that shaped my listening habits and live music addiction. The Cure promoting Faith at Chelmsford Odeon in 1981. There was no support, just a peg animation film called Carnage Visors with a Cure instrumental (Descent like) soudtrack that lasted 30 to 40 minutes (nopw aavailable on the Faith Deluxe CD package but then only avialbale on the cassette version of Faith (trust me, I knwo this shit). Then The Cure just smashed it using Pink Floyd's PA no less - what a show that was. We were in the 3rd row and just out of school, oh the memories......

I had that cassette too, Carnage Visors was a difficult thing to listen to, but Faith is still played to death, especially the 8 minute version on the 12 inch B side of Charlotte Sometimes.

Think my first gig was The Skids at The Top Rank

OMG! My all time favourite Cure track is the live version of Faith on the Charlotte Sometimes 12" flip, one of my most prized pieces of vinyl . I believe it's from Nottingham University and they included it in the Faith Deluxe CD release - (pained voice....."this is our last song and it's called faith......").
Faith was the 3rd of the first 3 LP's they played in full at The Sydney Opera House on may 331 and June 1 recently, before the 4 encores - it's going striaght to DVD ala Trilogy.

I went to that Kraftwerk concert too. I was about 18. Even though 35 years have passed I can still remember the boredom after they had played their well known hit. Everything sounded exactly the same. Thought it was at the Dome though.

You've got me questioning myself now, I always thought it was the BC, but it could well have been the dome - might make more sense.

Okay - nice one!
A mate (Mark, lives off London Road nr Preston Circus) also had it as his 'debut' concert - and he got me a copy of the show put on a CD!
Great lights handled by lyricist Pete Sinfield, they opened with 'Cirkus' from Lizard - blew me away from the opening tune.

My first concert too. I recorded it on my philips cassette recorder, hidden in a bag, but somehow managed to lose all my tapes when I last moved. I also caught the same tour at the Marquee Club.

My mate Gary recorded it on his cassette recorder too. But it's available on download and CD now.
