A point raised with a lot of validity on the 'Player of the Season' thread was that "'would Murray have won it if he'd signed a new contract ?" It's a fair point, I voted for AeA myself but Murray still has some detractors. If he moves for more money (which most right thinking people would do) will history treat him with less respect than the likes of Bobby Z and Mr Ward ?

Now I wouldn't say that Glenn is as good as those two but he has had a great season and his goals and overall play have made a significant contribution to the club's promotion. The same could be said of Leon Knight however his transformation from hero to villain was entirely self inflicted, a fact born out by his problems with subsequent employers.

I just hope that even if he goes Glenn will be remembered as the great striker he clearly is.

More of a players player as opposed to a fans player, he has never really engaged with fans but most fans appreciate that is due to shyness and personality and know what a terrific player he is. I really hope he signs a new contract as it will cement his place in the fans hearts. If he moves on I hope it is to a bigger club and his success continues but not at our expense, his role in making sure that the first game at the Amex will be as a championship team and not league one has been monumental.

he is undoubtedly a very good player and i think we can expect to get beat today without him , if he leaves for money well, it's understandable i suppose but the way it's been handled leaves a bit to be desired , i suppose that's just the modern game for you...........i hope he stays , get's the deal he wants and gets a 6 foot 6 marauding battering ram to play along side next year...... if he goes good luck to him , he won't interest me any more like some ex-albion players,to me it seems that his heart has never quite been 100 % with the club ....!!!!!!

Our goals were spread amongst the team and I don't think that people should ignore his part, his threat alone posed most of this league's defences huge problems. He's not as great as Wardy or Booby Z fair comment but compared to the likes of Craig Davies and others like him he is quality.

I think most people accept Bobby went as far as he could with us, and when he left it he was a 21/22 year old looking to advance his career with an established premier league team. With Murray it's a 27 year old leaving for money (while no one can criticise a move for money, it isn't as noble as career advancement - at 27 he is unlikely to develop the way Zamora went on to when he left), and unlikely to be going to a team in a position we won't be able to reach in the next three years.

As for player of the season, I don't think his contract status is relevant.
Every player has sections of the fans who don't rate them, which probably balances out the Murray haters in the votes. I think this year no player has stood out.
There are some people who look at his goals and say "how can you not give pots to a guy who scored over 20 goals?!" but there are also people who will say it's not just goals. You can score and still lose, but if you keep a clean sheet you're guaranteed at least a point. You can also only keep one clean sheet in a game, so while murray scored 22 goals, he only scored in 18 games, whereas Casper and the defence kept their 20 clean sheets in 20 different games.
Some people will also look at players with respect to potential. Murray has taken three years to get 20+, this is the first season he has come close to living up to expectations, whereas Adam El Abd has far exceeded any expectation people had for him, Bridcutt has grown into a player no one expected, Calderon has scored 7 goals more this season than he did last, did anyone expect him to be matching bennett in the goals scored column?
Then you have external interest. Has there been any interest in him? None that I recall being public, yet a premier league bound Norwich were offering a million or more for Bennett, so how can bennett not be considered when other people within football who know what they are talking about are willing to pay a million for him and our club rates him so much they're willing to turn down a million?

Personally I think Murray has had his best season with us, and not just for his goals, he has been a workhorse, he has helped out in defence and played a part in many of those clean sheets, but then our defence and midfield have played their part in the goals (both setting them up for Murray, Barnes and Wood, and in scoring goals themselves) as well as keeping clean sheets. As great as I think Murray has been this year, I still don't think any player has stood out so much that he is a shoo in for player of the season.

If Glenn could take a penalty he would have had 30+ this season!

Second highest scorer at Withdean, sublime, enigmatic, moody, magnificent, those who called him lazy are nitwits of the highest order.

At the risk of being annoying 'this'.

Should have walked away with played of the year.

El Abd has improved beyond all recognition, which I think has swayed people.

Without Murray we would have PROPER struggled to get promoted this season.

I think people tend to look at Murray and rate him solely for his contribution in the opponents' half (and possibly rightly so as he is after all a striker).
What many miss is that he is quite possibly our best defender against set pieces and his contributions in that respect have been priceless.

If there was an award for the single most outstanding all round display in a match this season then GM would have walked it for his performance against Oldham away. He finished the game literally on his knees having played centre back and centre forward seemingly simultaneously. Brilliant!

Today i think we can only draw ,Wood has more chance of getting blessed by the pope than scoring a goal

Wrong - El-Abd has been our most consistent player and fully deserves player of the year. He's been magnificent.

This!

Murray is a good striker in Div 3 of old money. Look at the service he has been given to get to 22 goals. BZ could only dream about the service Murray has had, when he was with us! It would be unfair to call the BZ era a one man team, but it would not be too far from the truth. The current squad has quality (at Div 3 level) all over the pitch.

Without Murray we would have been forced to get another reasonable quality target man. To give him Player of the Season with 22 goals in a CHAMPIONSHIP WINNING TEAM would not be fair. Bennett has played far better.

I think that Murray, should have got it really. El-Abd has been brilliant, but I think that without Murray we could have been starting our Amex campaign in League one. I think it has been a really difficult task to pick this season, as it really has been a magnificent team/squad effort. If GM does leave, then I wish him all the best and thanks for what he has done for us.

Yes, but take Murray out of our team and we look far weaker. Take El-Abd out and we deal with it. Take Greer out and El-Abd has been all at sea.

I'n not disputing that El-Abd has been immense, but without Murray, put simply we would NOT be champions.
