Adebayor claims its racist, Spurs and the police say its not.

What does NSC think?

This may surprise some of the 'search the internet / world for something to get offended by' brigade on here who have me down as some kind of neo Nazi, but I think I'm with Adebayor on this one.

Thoughts?

There's another version of:

"Adebayor, Adebayorrrrr, he used to like coach trips but not anymore." after the shooting in Angola during the African Nations Cup.

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
Shit and offensive. I guess there could be a case for casual racism.

The bus song is ridiculous. It doesn't surprise me that there are cretins who enjoy singing about an aggressive murderous attack.

Not racist in my opinion. What has washing an elephant and your mum being on the game got to do with the colour of ones skin??? Or am i missing something?

It implies that they do that (which I highly doubt they do) because they are black/because of where they come from...

Spurs fans have previous with this type of thing as some of the Sol Campbell chants and Wenger paedo stuff was a bit close to the mark imo.

Don't mind a good bit of banter but agree with Adebayor on this one def over the mark

Not just Spurs fans mate, Arsenal sing it too. And they are the least racist club in London. Definitely the club with the most black fans as well.

Could it not be classed as xenophobic rather than racist? The song sort of stereotypes his nationality rather than the colour of his skin.

It's not specific to his nationality though is it? I imagine an Ivorian player or a Senegalese player might be subjected to the same sort of chant, which suggests that it's aimed (rather generically) at a vague perception of Africans. Therefore I can easily see why he might perceive it to be racist.

Would they sing it at a white player? I doubt it.

I'm only talking about the elephant part here, by the way, not the whore part, which frankly, while unpleasant for him, is the sort of thing that could and does get chanted at any player (David Beckham, for example).

Do those that sing it know much about the Togolese then? Or are they just thinking about Africans? Black ones that is, cos a white man washing elephants wouldn't be funny to them.

Anyway, personally I think calling someone's mother a whore is more offensive. Unless of course, the person really hates their mother. Or she is actually a whore. Whatever - it is offensive and contrary to what those that sing it might think - spectacularly unfunny.

Am i the only one that finds it amazing, that he gets upset about an elephant thing but not about his mum being called a whore.

Just deciding to jump on the bandwagon with the racist thing. IMO
