Thats my point! Park pitches! Mid winter! Lack of technical ability in english players, are they linked, the problem is pitches played into oblivion and not enough 3g pitches:angry:

I get what your saying to a point, however South America, Africa and Southern Europe have awful sandpits of pitches and are deemed technically superior to us.

I would think its a cultural and access to hours of practise due to their climate that might offer greater technical skill.

as suspected our 1/4 final under 14 game called off as worthing college dont want us playing!!!!but we are switching the game to sompting rec,(6 weeks waiting),ok they might get the advantage but at least the boys get toplay

Had better be on the larger pitch and not the one with the pylon going over it otherwise you will be mashing up Minis home ground

I am not totally disagreeing with you here but .........

Most pitches these days are NOT the mud baths of years ago, more likely because of the protection that this weekends cancellations offer.

I still believe that we culturally enjoy and have always promoted a high tempo, 'up n at em'' style of play, maybe triggered by the muddy pitches maybe just that we quite like a battle rather than the finer points of 'total football'.

Irrespective of the state of the pitches, parents and coaches will be applauding a header a tackle and a long clearance ahead of a little kid trying to pass ( maybe unsuccessfully ) to his teamate just outside his own penalty area whether this weekend or in the dry months of the Summer football tournaments, its just what we do.

My point is that a young players development is moulded and encouraged from what is said by the youngsters coach and their supporters whether its a muddy pitch in Crawley or a muddy pitch Holland.

Now that most have accep

I'm chairman of Sedlescombe Sports assoc and look after our pitches myself. Having spent a lot of time and money maintaining them they are still unplayable after the rain. We are looking into renewing the drainage and may get a grant but the overall cost is in the region of £35 000. That's for one main pitch a new 3/4 size and three small pitches. Now if you multiply that up to the amount of pitches local authorities maintain that is one hell of a lot of money. I do however believe its time for the FA to start really helping out financially. By that not their grants they offer at the moment which have ridiculous restriction and expectations. We asked for help to build a new sports pavilion, they said they would help but only if we built a structure they sanctioned, this ended up three times the size needed added to which would have impacted on the pitches and was thrown out by the council. We put forwards the plans we wanted and the FA stopped their grant.

Finally to get the right conditions for our kids to advance their technical ability etc we really need to look at whether we play junior football in the winter or in the summer when the pitches are in a better condition.
