Couldn't find a brighton picture from when they actually ran, this is an original that was "bought back" by Brighton and Hove.

I swear I remember white buses when I was a kid as well.

Dont think thats an ex Tillings bus as its a London Routemaster

But this looks a white bus

The Cardinal Newman uniform was only available iin Cobley's, on Church Road.

Not Broadley Bros at the bottom of George Street?

Of course the uniform for Hove CGS was available from both of these outfitters; slightly different shades of blue so everyone knew where your mum had taken you.

Who remembers when Sydney Street was full of butchers' shops? You could go down there at 5.30pm on a Saturday, when they were all competing to give meat away for practically nothing.

Old Shoreham Road :o(
There was also a Comet near there somewhere accessed by a steep staircase. Loked like an electrical jumble sale inside. Where was it exactly?

It was where Trafalgar Place is now, it used to be the parcels depot in the lower goods yard for Brighton station.

After that was pulled down, Comet moved to what is now the Clarendon Centre, a happy clappy new wave 'church' in New England Street.

A mate of mine has a shop in Sydney Street - Immediate Clothing.

It was a fishmongers, and the cellar is actually one big freezer. For ages, he used it as a rehearsal studio. It's now The Punker Bunker. He only took the huge door off recently.

Could you see this 'wall' from the top of Cranbourne Street or the steps that lead down?

I have a vague recollection of just that.

Yep, that's the baby...It always made me laugh that a lot of the images of skateboarding from the States at the time generally consisted of empty backyard swimming pools with a backdrop of beautiful blue skies. Whereas 'The Wall' was situated in a rather drab looking car park/warehouse area and inevitably the British climate could only provide grey overcast skies.

There was a big pub just along from Cavendish Place on the seafront that was replaced by a block of flats. Cant remember the name of the place now though..
We (KingTafari) did a reggae party there one night, and the entire bar staff quit on the spot when we put the bass on

edit: just came to me.. The Abinger.

You were part of King Tafari? You used to do nights in the old Underground Club while I was DJing upstairs in Swifts.

Anyone remember when Eddie the Eagle jumped off the roof of Sport & Ski in the old Churchill Square? Early 90s I think.

Also, the retirement of Brighton's only police horse at the time, Kim, in 1963 caused quite a commotion apparently. Anyone remember it?

I didn't know that. Always got my CGS uniform from Broadleys! My sons were still wearing the same sort of tie when it became Hove Park later. In fact, the tie was the only thing that had any blue in it. Everything else was grey.
