Can anyone tell me, as I am confused,... I was under the impression that the East Stand was to have two tiers instead of three as per the West,.... but all the pics show just one tier,... is this right?,... or is there more to do yet?

The East Stand will be a single tier, but its been designed so it CAN have another tier built over the current tier in order to make it into a two-tier stand.
If they're boosting capacity at some later date, they're more likely to fill the corners before they put the extra tier in though.

I think the whole ground is built to be expandable to 36,000 at relatively low expense isn't it?

(Mind you, there would be a whole bunch of other infrastructural issues to resolve before that would be allowed)

The holes are even drilled ready for the 2nd tier if/when needed, so it wouldn't be a majorly expensive project to expand it. You wouldn't need to touch the roof structure, its all there in place, as is the concourse, so structurally the east stand will be ready for that 2nd tier tier to slot right in. The exit capacities for the stadium are already geared towards the (potentially) increased capacity.

The main issue to resolve looks like being the transport to and from the stadium (which already looks challenging at the current capacity).

The Albion managed in the confines of The Goldstone, and I believe there's some work going on to expand the Falmer train station - so I can't see why The Amex will prove so difficult for the fan numbers.

Just like any club, ours would have to warrant the need and provide petitions, before expanding the crowd capacity.

The station is not being expanded. You will still get 4 train carts.

It did make me wonder whether it would be possible to put in another platform at Falmer station and have trains from Brighton just to serve the ground on matchdays...pretty sure there used to be something similar at Watford.

In retrospect we're lucky they didn't go ahead with that college idea - wasn't that where it was going to go? Not sure a second tier would have been so straightforward then

When we've discussed this before some NSC'ers who work on the railways said extending Falmer station in terms of both platform capacity and extra trains wasn't going to be possible, well, not without millions being spent. The signalling won't allow 'shuttle' trains for one thing.

I thought it was all to do with the London Road Viaduct and the one platform at Brighton going in that direction?

I cannot ever see that happening, even if it was possible!

So how many other grtounds have a station virtually on it's concourse?

People will settle into their own routine for getting home. there's loads of buses and more from the bottom of coldean lane or the 49 in Moulsecoomb, both in reasonable walking distance.

Not sure about that. Certainly more than one platform in Brighton 'goes in that direction' as I've caught the train to London Road from several different ones. And the London Road viaduct is a new one, what's the problem with that?

The biggest problem appears to be the signalling. British Bulldog and Ernest are the two who know most about this.

i might be alone on this one but i'd much rather they added a second tier before filling the corners in, imo it would be much better for the overall look of the ground.

I think the Albion have been quite crafty about the capacity, they knew they would struggle to get the go-ahead on anything bigger than the initial capacity, but have made it very easy to increase it.

Cheers, thought that there would be a reasonable explaination, it is a pity if that is true because it would make it very easy to shift large numbers of people in and out of Falmer quickly and take pressure off the roads.

No, agree with that. Who wants to sit in a corner anyway? The stadium's already enclosed so the corners aren't an issue to me. Though it would be good if the ends were as wide as the pitch, which they're not.

Corners filled or not, it looks fantastic sort of like a mini Stamford bridge. I think it also looks a like a stadium that has built up over time rather than a purpose built bowl stadium, well impressed.

Agreed, otherwise it will just look like some bowl-shaped stadium like Plymouth's.

As per the first post, I also thought the East was going to be two-tiered initially.
