I've never seen him play FOR us.Saw him play for Torquay AGAINST us,and he was far inferior to our keeper that day,and the latter was not given a new contract.

just got back from the game.

poke was utterly dreadful, we stood not 20 feet behind him, and he appears completely clueless. the arguing between him and his CBs was unbelievable. he does not command his box, he does not claim high balls, he does not communicate, he cannot block soft shotds, and his distribution was appalling - all just long high balls to the big sole target man holroyd.

I'm as loyal as the next man, but I never ever want to see this bloke poke between our sticks again. gus has admitted his mistake, cancel his contract and get rid now.

i have never seen such a poor keeper.

Just back as well. I can't argue with this.

If you're looking for someone who can change a game in an instant - then Poke's your man for all the wrong reasons.

When the stadium announcer said that the sponsors had decided on a joint Cobblers Man of the Match award I genuinely thought they were going to give it to Poke and Whing - who if anything was even more woeful.

Why do people constantly have to give our players the benefit of the doubt and trot this tired 1-liner out about having to see him in the flesh before you're allowed to pass judgment?! I mean, after each phone in, people at the same match have clearly seen different games going by much of the debate (!) so being there doesn't qualify you to be a better judge necessarily cause everyone who goes disagrees about who played well etc?

Statistically the majority will actually go on to become footnotes rather than legends so what's the problem with calling a spade when shit is so obviously being shovelled? Especially when said player has been transferred for peanuts from another league 1 club where he couldn't get a game?! I said Smith was terrible after a couple of games. I said the same about Holroyd after two games. Yet some people (not necessarily you UB) kept harping on about giving them more time. Football isn't that long, trialists don't get the same luxury so what is effectively a reserve team tonight needs people to step up or they're not likely to be troubling the 1st team soon are they? Craig Barndoor Davies was another, yes he whose most telling contribution last Sat fr his new club was to get sent off (rumour has it he missed the dressing room on his way up the tunnel). Yet time and time again people leapt to his defence - right up to the point where we said "here's a banjo, go find a herd son and practice".

So in my mind maybe, maybe, some of us, having watched the Albion for many years are just better at spotting dross earlier than quite a few on here? Consequently as far as I'm concerned good people of NSC, criticise away those found wanting in the famous stripes because you're more often right than not. And I hazard to guess than in Poke we've bought a turkey; not least because Poyet's admitted as much. Given the manner of his first goal conceded, hopefully we won't see him repeat his mistake......namely because he won't get near the subs bench let alone first 11.

You make a reasonable point - but on that basis, you'd have got shot of the likes of Crumplin, Wilkins, Butters and Navarro long before they "blossomed". Some players DO take time to settle, get to their peak form and fitness, and eventually prove their worth.

Poke is sounding a bit hopeless, mind...

I've never seen him play, so I'm not going to comment too much on whether he's good or Smith, but obviously he's not great, and I don't understand the signing. Didn't from the start. Clearly he was signed as back up, but to me Mitch Walker looks ready. Not ready to be number one maybe, but as number two, and to play the odd game? Yes. So signing this guy just to sit between Walker and the first team and hold back the developmment of a good prospect never seemed like sense to me.

Also, he's really really ugly.

Super.

Doubt he is going to make it, but it amuses me that all the arm chair experts on here write him off without watching him.

going by NSC rules, I guess this means that Ankergren is the messiah, best keeper in the division and it was a master class from Poyet bringing him in, wouldnt sell him for less than £500,000

and

Poke is shit, should be playing for Lewes thats his level, waste of wages, disgrace to mankind, I would rather listen to Jedward playing vuvuzelas.

even gus has kinda admitted hes rubbish to be fair

No.. Gus has admitted that he is YOUNG (24) and still needs experience, isn't ready for the pressure of the first team yet.

For christ sake, some of you are real morons. He kept 13 clean sheets last season for struggling torquay, making 142 saves- and Gus picked him up for free. He won't be on high wages and could still develop into a good player for us. We don't need him for the season, we have two quality goalkeepers ahead of him. There is no damage and no issue, so what is your problem?

I hate seeing our goalkeepers shot down in flames, it has happened far too many times over the last few seasons.

Ah, well perhaps you should be given a role at the club, perhaps advising GP? I'm sure he'd appreciate your obvious knowledge.

Gus had admitted he is not up to the job - hence Ankergren's arrival.

The first goal was little more than a back pass and was not even intended as a shot. It rolled between his legs as if was not even watching the ball.

I think he needs to go out on loan for the rest of his one year contract and Walker kept as number three. He would not have made this mistake.

No not Pokes bird just a real brighton fan who wants our team to succeed and not jump down players throats as if had half a brain cell would no not way to make a player improve.
A player has one bad game and bang, come on use your brains.
Yes players who consistently rubbish eg hawkins, livermore etc deserve it as over time poor but not Poke and other young and new players.

Is English a second language for you?

I've just watched the goals and I don't care what you 'give him a chance' people say, that first goal was awful, no excuse. Yes I may of been in an arm chair, the disabled adults i work with took priority over my day to driving to a midweek cup game but from my arm chair the commentary kept saying poke doesn't come to claim, even smith tried, he really doesn't have a clue, just like half of NSC

Confidence took a battering when Casper was brought in and last night I think will be the nail in the coffin of his Brighton career. One year deal and think he might well be out on loan by the end of the month as long as Brez's injury is clearing up.

Torquay fans love him though so its all a bit strange
