Can anyone recommend some decent fiction books or authors, just finished my current one and I'm looking for another?

What sort of thing do you like? Any particular genre/author?

Depends what style if you like crime/thriller types ones I have enjoyed this year are by authors:

Simon Beckett, Val McDermid, Linwood Barclay and Brighton's own detective series by Peter James - but books by these authors are best sellers so I might be stating the obvious ones you have read.

One that grabbed me on a recommendation was One Day by David Nicholls.
Don't really fit in with your genre but didn't think I would like it either. Or anything by PJ Tracey

As Cheshire mentioned, the Peter James ones about Roy Grace, the Brighton based detective are very good. He namechecks practically every road and street in the city, so you always know exactly where everything is being played out.

The last one I read had women being forced to stick stilletto heels up their arses and minkys, which was nice.

Agree, Roy Grace books are good.
Another partly Brighton based book that should come under fiction/crime - Leon Knight.

Have you tried the Louie Knight mysteries by Malcolm Pryce,eg "Don't Cry for Me Aberystwyth". You get crime and a laugh. Not to everyones' taste, but I've read them all and found them pretty good.

I expect you've tried Jeffery Deaver,Michael Connelly and Mark Billingham.

I particularly liked the Philip Kerr "Berlin Noir" set.........crime in Nazi Germany, and a decent feel for the era, also the follow up set in South America after the war.Excellent stuff,I thought, though of course others may think my selections are rubbish.

John Grisham.

Finest author out there for what he does, legal thrillers. Personally, I would suggest Runaway Jury, Pelican Brief and Brethren as his best 3, but I've not yet finished A time to kill.

Andrew Gross, Greg Iles, John Case and James Patterson (although his Alex Cross books are getting somewhat tedious now)

Girl with the dragon tattoo, good book!

Agreed, the Larsson books are real page-turners but hasn't everyone read them now?

I'll endorse Edna's choice of Robert Harris (except Archangel which I thought was tedious). In fact, I have Lustrum for my holiday read.

Have you tried CJ Sansom's historical whodunnits? First one is set in Sussex and is excellent.
