Brasov , Romania
turkey away in 1991 ,Dennis wise scored scored with his elbow and the 1000 or so England fans out there were chanting "Taylor out" on his first away game

Croatia, in THAT game that meant we didn't qualify for 2008.

The horrible thing is, at least that was against a decent team playing well - Modric was brilliant for them - and we did create chances. Yesterday was just so much worse.

The Romania game at Euro 2000 was pretty rotten, and although the performance wasn't terrible, the quarter-final we lost to Brazil was awful for the whimpering, effortless way we went out.

I seem to remember a game in a world cup against Rep.Ireland where the ball spent most of the time in the air. Best game of head tennis you'll ever see. Think it finished 1-1 ?

Fact is there's been plenty and it's hard to pick out any.

Much easier to pick out the best - which for me is the 4-1 v Holland in Euro '96 by a country mile.

Two v Holland. The Euro 88 one (lost 3-1, Van Basten made Tony Adams look a total mug), and the friendly at Spurs a few years ago (lost 2-0).

And the 2-0 away to Norway under Taylor in 1994 WC qualifying, not the 'hell of a beating' one, but arguably a far worse performance.

Way out west
Not necessarily a team performance, but that game in Dublin where the fans misbehaved themselves, made me embarassed to be English.

Actually, the last thing i remember 2002, Brazil. One of my earliest footballing memories. I asked my dad why we were playing backwards, 2-1 down, and with 2 minutes to play. His answer was "because england are shit, you're in for a life time of let downs, cock-ups, 40 more years of hurt, and a hell of a lot of need for dreaming. Your unlucky to support England"... then he opened another beer... but i digress

The point is, that game was pathetic in my young eyes because we didn't even f***ing try to win. We just played backwards, surely SURELY getting the ball up with urgency was more likely to get us through than playing it back to Seaman? Right?

Under your skin.
Didn't we draw with Macedonia at home one year and they scored straight from a corner. :facepalm;

Good shout, it doesn't have to be defeats to 'lesser' nations. That Brazil display was punch-the-wall frustrating.

:lolol: It was worse than frustrating. It was just lacking common sense. Why have the ball infront of your own box if your a goal down? Get a fast player on the ball, AND RUN and pass and RUN and pass. and shoot. and score.

Attempting that would yeild more results than f***ing playing it on your box. :facepalm:
