On this particular day, I would have been celebrating my brother's 12th birthday.

On this day ten years ago I was working in Scotland for the most miserable bastard of a boss that you could imagine and looking forward to the day that I could leave, which at that stage was some nine months distant...though I have to admit that once I did get away from there my life started to look up again and has been pretty much a breeze ever since!

I'd just started a job at Portsmouth Land registry as a 22 year old nipper fresh out of uni, at the Christmas work party I shagged my 35 year old boss, now she taught me a thing or two that night. Happy days.

Working at BT and looking forward to the extra £1500 bonus in addition to hammering the overtime at Xmas and the New Year just in case it all went tits up as we entered the new Millenium.

On this day 10 years ago, I was coming to the end of a week's work in Israel, I had been commissioned to write a magazine supplement and did something like 40 interviews in 6 days, which was exhausting.

I mentioned that I was a Brighton supporter to the cab driver taking me back to the airport and he immediately started talking about Moshe Gariani and Jacob Cohen - which I thought was pretty impressive.

Working as a commis chef in Betchworth, preparing to work Christmas day for £120 + tips and looking forward to the first new year I could get into bars and clubs. People say time flys but it feels like a long time ago.
