Just got back from Quantum of Solace....(Contains spoliers)

I tried to ignore the bad reviews this film had got over the last few days, and went in really looking forward to it.

However I was left very disappointed. The story line was WEAK, and didn't really feel like a sequel. Dispite seeing Casino Royale last night, I still found the storyline hard to follow.

If a car chase at the start of the film wasn't enough, they felt the need for a boat chase too.....oh and a roof top chase as well.....and another car chase involving a ford and a motorcycle.

Never got going, and I was left baffled at the end of the film wondering what had really happened.

Worst bond film in a while.

Exactly! It does make you wonder if the whole action movie genre has had its day - explosions and all the aforementioned chase options have been done to death - all the wow/shock value etc. has gone and CGI just makes you more blaze about what is possible.

Never watched the Bourne films, but I'm guessing they had some sort of storyline.

I didn't really understand where QoS was going to be honest.

The storyline was, for me, pretty straightforward and not difficult to follow.

I just found it a bit... lacking.

On the upside, no cringing silly gimmicks or gadgetry.

My review:

Great start good car chase.

Open credits cool and music fitted.

Great foot chase over roofs.

Great - in fact amazing Choreographed fight scene involving scaffolding.

At this point I felt it was an equal to any film.

Then somehow it lost any meaning.

All the individual players were there, great stunts, scenary, action, brutality, scary people, some good lines but it wasn't a team performance.

When the film moved to the final scene, I thought and hoped, that this wasn't the end, because I was still missing something.

5 out of 10.

One other gripe, I found the dialogue hard to hear? One scene, with Felix I picked up a couple of words only. I gave up l To follow all the intricate dialogue plot.

When I got in, my Dad (babysitting) was watching Die Another Day, that film reminds me of Bond at its worst. And in some respects QoS was a parallel image but luckily without the gadgets.

Bourne: Intense action, and constantly moving,

Some of QoS stunts whilst visually stunning - just go on and on!

On the plus side it was quite a lean film (the shortest bond movie made I believe) and it zipped by at great pace. The story was pretty weak it must be said and the female characters (notwithstanding Judi Dench) were the worst in a while. The action was exciting but yet again the villans were dull. I think the Argus review yesterday giving it 3 out of 5 was pretty much spot on. I'd still recommend people see it, but it struck me that this was a poor man's Bourne.

I heard one reviewer say that this James Bond characterization lacked humour.

Let's face it, the reason Connery's was the right Bond period, was that his character had a certain amount of nervous unsureness, and an underlying wry humour that made him a 'cad' with the laytees and set up an inherent relationship with his foes. He had a way of using naivety to disarm, and to find out crucial information as to who knew what. It was close to the roots and allure of the spy books, and of Ian Fleming's world.

Now it's just a Die Hard episode 16.
American involvement is probably the reason the subtleties have disappeared, and been replaced by visual bombardment.

Under these circumstances I expect Mr Bond to die.

Well I think you're all wrong, I thought it was great, ok it was a bit The Bond Supremacy but it was very entertaining.
I thought the villains were some of the most evil Bond villains yet, it was like a better made Licence to Kill.

Saw it last night, purposely stayed away from reviews before hand so I could make my own judgement.

Dissapointing, everything that has already been said really, girls weak, storyline a bit thin, thought the villian was well acted but the character was weak.

Craig is an excellant Bond, but has been let down by a poor film, I thought the action was lacking really, there was nothing spectacular that made you go wow.

Shame.

Unless I missed it, he didn't bed both girls?

And picking up an earlier point, Bond himslef didn't really do any detective work, in this one, he played more of an assasin role.

Thinking a bit more, Bond had too many allies too many characters confusing and blurring a plot.

Matthias role, was there really a need? To build that part in added 10-15 mins to the feel and added nothing. Perhaps Matthias should have reappeared in another Bond!

Did the Americans really need to capture Bond as well as the Brits, only one attempt was needed to show that he is top dog!

Some respects these points make Bourne, so good.

He is on his own. He does his detective work and everyone is a foe!

Simple and effective. And those elements work best in the bonds as well.

To carry on in the same vein, I find it hard for this thread to 'contain spoilers'.
As the film had no dialogue, or characters.

My conclusion is, without Dame Judy (should be Queen Judy) the film would completely empty.

Casino Royale was fantastic, QoS pails in it's shadow.

Hopefully they have now drawn a line under Bond's fragile mental health, and can move on.

When I left the cinema after Casino Royale I wanted to watch it again. When I left the cinema after QoS I wanted to tell all the people queuing outside not to waste their money.

Less than 500ft and you at least shatter both ankles
