The next England manager should be whoever is the best candidate to apply for the position, nationality irrelevant.

I think that the rule should be that all national temas should have a manager of whom is the same nationality of the country, just like the players have to be.

BUT saying this, I wouldnt trust many (if any) English managers today with the job :nono:

Why do people get so hung up on having an english manager? Hasn't worked so far. McClown, Keagan etc. Just wait, they'll put bloody shearer in charge next. Then we'll fail for the World cup as well

English preferably, if not British.

There's a few to choose from, Bruce, Bothroyd, Allardyce, Cubishley, Redknapp, Hughes, Coppell.....they just need to be given the chance but because the top four clubs who monopolise English football won't give them a chance doesn't mean the F.A should.

If he's British then he may as well be foreign.

English would be best but just havent got any candidates so no choice but to go foreign.

Yes it has. Sir Alf Ramsay.

Having said that, I agree with Frutos and it should be the best candidate regardless of nationality.

No becauise there is no English manager other than Glen Hoddle capable and the FA will not have him back.

that is such utter balderdash its not even funny

National team coaches/mangers are direct extensions of teams, therefore I think they should be the same nationality as the team, which preferably, should also be of the correct nationality!

The next manager should be the best person for the job regardless of nationality as others have said. Personally, I don't think there are any decent English candidates out there so wouldn't be upset by a foreign manager at all.

Exactly what I said there isnt an English manager good enough or perhaps you can tell me who is.

Hoddle was the best manager we had as far as tactics etc went but he went barmy about off the field things and there is no way that the FA would consider him again.

So what is the problem with my post?

I agree that.

I think the national game should be the best of the nation, not some of the best and some of another in a vain attempt to attain something else

we all applaud pluckly losers at major tournaments, none of us applaud unplucky underachievers and losers

and I don't believe we're not capable as a country, far from it

no.

I want us to win the World Cup.

If a Martian picked the England team that won it I couldn't give a toss.

There are currently no decent English managers - Big Sam, O'Neill, Coppell, Rednapp - your having a laugh.

Doesn't matter what nationality he is as long as he's the best candidate going. But he needs to understand that the media will be on his every move ready to jump on any decisions he makes and if he cannot take that pressure he should not apply. Also, and I suppose this sounds strange as I was dead against McClown staying after only 18 months in the job, he should be given time. Give him a 4 year contract covering the World Cup and the 2012 Euros and only review after the qualification for the 2012 Euros is over (unless he is completely shit) as it is going to take time to sort out this complete mess we find ourselves in.
I cannot think of a British manager who's a winner and who would take the job - the obvious answer I suppose is Ferguson who ain't interested. Martin O'Neil did great things in Scotland but let's not delude ourselves as there's only two teams in Scotland likely to win anything and he managed one of them.
