All this hype over an overrated covers band.

 one of my favourite things about Oasis is how angry their popularity and success makes certain people.

I say this as a proper intelligent muso nerd, I really like Oasis, first two albums are near on perfect. The rest of their work is a bit naff but I fully expect it’ll be a great show.

I think this pretty much sums it up, Definitely Maybe a seminal album which would make any top 50 albums of all time list. It all got a bit self indulgent after What’s The Story however there was still the odd cracking track that popped up every now and again (Hindu Times etc) Looking forward to seeing them in September.

I go with Definitely Maybe being a seminal album. Morning Glory is really good with glimpses of the mediocre that was to follow.

Exhibit a is 'slowly walking down the hall, faster than a cannon ball'

I agree their later catalogue did have the odd cracker. Like Sunday Morning Call.

I'd have said spending over 5 minutes on Hey Now, a song that I have zero recollection of even while I read the title, is more symptomatic of Oasis' limitations than a lyric that's no more meaningless than 90% of the other pop / psychedelic lyrics. :lolol:

Exhibit B Your honor

I am going to throw Roll with it into the mix also.

Meaningless I don't mind, some of the greatest lyrics are meaningless but that particular one is meaningless, souless, atmosphereless, painting a pictureless and generally all around shite. It is the worst lyric in a song containing many shit lyrics on an album containing even more (and some quite good ones).

I think you could probably make one album of a similar quality by combining the best out of the tracks from the other albums.

I think The Masterplan is not a bad album, not perfect but some good tracks, especially this one.
