Several loanees called up for international duty - Barco for Argentina; Scherpen for Holland; James Beadle for the England U21s; Enciso for Paraguay; Evan for the ROI and Sima for Senegal.

Important to remember not all loans are indicative of the player's ultimate ability. History is full of players, especially young ones, who didn't look up to much on various loan spells and came back to make an impact. None of Harry Kane's various loan spells as a youngster suggested he'd go on to be a star for Spurs and England. Ayari didn't do much at Blackburn, for example, but has shown himself more than worthy of his place in the side at times the season just gone.

Conversely, Ben White was Beckenbauer, Maldini and Virgil Van Dijk all rolled into one at The Leeds United, but has sadly gone backwards since leaving the command of The Great Bielsa and had to scrape a living as a journeyman player with Brighton, Arsenal and England (briefly).

Followers of our loanees' exploits will remember Marc Leonard having two superb seasons with Northampton - and then, in spite of several Championship teams being interested, he sadly signed for Birmingham - and has spent most of the 24-25 season warming the bench. Fortunately, it looks like he's on the move -

and being tipped for a Scotland call up (he'd probably have been there already had he signed for someone else) -

Like you I had hopes for Leonard at Albion - mind you I rated Moran well too😊

Eh? Sima started and played for just over an hour.
Yes, Sima played about an hour, Evan came on for about half an hour. Ok, a few minutes insignificant overlap, just giving a general overview. Wasn't going for exact precision - didn't think it was essential.

Still don't!

Oh, I see what you meant now (ie Sima was taken off around the same time Ferguson was brought on).
On first reading it seemed like you were saying Sima came on as a sub for about half an hour.

Two out of contract loanees - Abdallah Sima and Odel Offiah have agreed contract extensions to 2026. Perhaps the club have decided to have a look at Offiah in pre-season following his successful loan? A bit surprised about Sima though - he was looking like one of those players who we buy but never look like coming anywhere near the Albion, like Matt Clarke for instance.

Probably just signed a year so we can get a fee for them this summer

Could be - but they still had to agree to it. On another thread, I know, but didn't we try to get Duffus to do this in January, he wouldn't, and that is maybe the reason he seems to be in the dog-house and not playing for the U21s?

Yes I do believe you’re correct. I agree with @jackalbion on Duffus, I don’t think we’ve covered ourselves in glory with a player that was showing potential

In the case of all six players named by the Albion today as agreeing new contract extensions (Lamptey, Sima, Jensen, Mills, Offiah and Mullins) - the club has taken up their one-year option. The "agreeing" occurred when they signed their contracts that contained these club options.

Duffus has been offered a new contract but has chosen not to sign and, as things stand, will be off this summer.

Be interested to hear your suggestions for which method the club should employ to make a player sign a new contract; torture? kidnapping family members?

Well we’ve already kind of covered torture, through isolating him from the team. Not playing him or recognising as a squad member, perhaps the term ‘bullying’ him into a signing a contract. I’m almost glad he hasn’t, because I don’t agree with it.

He hasn't been isolated from the team as he has been shown in training galleries on multiple occasions this calendar year.

Given that he has chosen not to sign a new contract, why should the club continue to play him in matches and, effectively, further develop another team's (as of this summer) player?

Why did Liverpool continue to develop Trent before he’s signed for Real Madrid? Duffus is our best U23’s striker (by a distance) , it’s within the best interests of the club for the U23’s to perform well and win in the league and cups to continue playing at the highest youth levels in the best competitions, thus creating a more challenging environment for our youth talent to develop.

If through playing him the last 6 months he continued to develop and we thought he was worth a crack at first team, then get him to sign on increased terms as a first team player, if not release him. We can’t have it both ways.
