[Technology] AI

We are used to technologies improving over time, often over just a few years. But nothing has ever compared to the exponential growth of AI that we are witnessing, and is imminently about to become even more important.

AI tech advancement is truly exponential. It's looking like there has never been more radical and extreme changes to civilisation than there will be over the next few MONTHS. because of this exponential growth of AI.

It won't be long before it is better than we are, so soon it will be teaching us (as we fail to understand it anymore), rather than teaching it. This will lead to all kinds of problems.

Brace yourselves. It's going to be a wild ride. Let's hope it ends well.

I'm depressed enough about AI taking most of the jobs and my likelihood of being replaced before I retire in 10 years time. And about my daughter actually having a career.

Before I even think about AI having control of manufacturing ( robot/drone armies ) and deciding the solution to global warming is to eradicate humanity.

Just pull the plug now while we still can.

Yeah, pretty annoying that it's going to end the world and that.

Still, pretty cool that AI can turn an amateur songwriter's lyrics into a banging tune, eh?

EH?

I see this qualification written as an afterthought in grey typeface every time AI posts answers:

AI responses may include mistakes.

It’s worryingly human in two ways:
  • It’s aware of its imperfect nature
  • It’s very reticent in bringing too much attention to its imperfections

"We are witnessing" being the key.

There have been many industrial/technological revolutions in the past and not many (except those affected) gave a toss about the effect on communities because they were mainly working class.

The reason AI is universally seen as a threat to jobs (rather than progress) is that is being discussed around the dining table rather than the kitchen one.

West is BEST
Every civilisation has been the cause of its own downfall and now of them last forever.

What makes us think we will be any different?

AI
Climate meltdown
Nuclear war

I think we have everything covered in order to wipe ourselves out.

As much as I like living and all that, the sooner humans are gone from the earth so that it can start to recover, the better.

Who are you backing for the takeover?

For me, it’s the crows. Ingenious they are.

I'm not sure that what we have at the moment in the public domain can actually be called 'intelligence'. I use Copilot for code development, (switching between GPT, Claude and o models) and I would say currently they're all more glorified content scrapers rather than thinking entities. Give it time though.

This is correct. AI is only as good as the data that goes into the LLMs right now, and there lies the problem as people like Musk start poisoning the world

Think call centres, customer service, audiobooks, games, even football commentary.

This AI revolution is happening so quickly now. Never has a technology been so exponential in growth.

I recon AI will be a boon to the musical video and masturbation industries.

Hither (sometimes Thither)
This is AI creating an image of me delighted on my wedding day as I fell helplessly in love with a bridesmaid, who was an orangutan.

I was chatting to someone supposedly ITK, yesterday, and they said that AI already encompasses all written and spoken human knowledge and is now in control of itself and growing exponentially, leading to a frightening mixture of good and bad potential outcomes as a result.
