Wieffer hadn't messed up v Wolves and we hadn't blown the 2-0 lead at Leicester (the worst of the other c**k ups). We'd have still finished 8th.

Yes, we ballsed up other games we shoulda won too, but I guess most teams have a few of those, and we did have some lucky results (eg. away v Newcastle).

.... but you could say that if hadn't have "messed up" in those two games, we'd have momentum, confidence and a higher league position that may have meant improved form and a better platform, but the biggest benefit would have been it would have been less fuel for the fire that was the Fab out debacle ;)

Every fan of every team can point to moments that would have changed things.

It is what it is *whistles through teeth*

It was the collapse after the FA Cup quarter final that did for us. We looked so bloody good at Manchester City, real feeling of what if

The Easy Six showing was pitiful. And the rest. Some shockers in there and beyond. Largely forgiven on account of some unlikely wins against The Historical Big Six. Positives just about outweighed the negatives in an utterly erratic season. Next season could be anything. Doubtless depends on whether TB prioritises spending on infrastructure over players

The game that really stopped all momentum was the home draw against Southampton, win and we would of moved to second , instead we went on a long run of 9 games without a win , that was the period that cost us European football

And if we hadn’t scored that penalty in the last few seconds against Fulham, or Baleba‘s stunner in the 90+ something minute when we played West Ham, or the 84th minute goal to beat Liverpool etc. etc. etc.

That’s the beauty of football, it’s unpredictable you accept the good and the bad, and then insert any other old football cliche that suits. :drink:

When has he ever prioritised infrastructure over players considering he spent over £200m in transfer fees last summer?

So many "what if" games... especially against the bottom of the table. suffice to say, it was a very good year- not a great one... a bit better than good... and bodes well for the future with so much young talent... as the late, great, Don Meredith (NFL legend) said about picking apart wins and losses, "IF ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas!"

Everybody remembers the what ifs when it meant us losing points, but there are also moments that got us points we could easily have lost.

Bournemouth smashed the bar with the final kick of the game, we drew at home to Arsenal because of a penalty most neutrals felt shouldn't have been given, Salah missed a sitter at the Amex last week, Man United had a goal ruled out against us by one of their players needlessly touching it when offside etc.
