Shouldn’t they be declaring? That must be enough runs and it’s a 4 day match I would have thought they might like to have a pop. They can’t need batting practice that much shirley.
Bat once bat big might be the philosophy here. I don't think they necessarily want to win in 2 days, they want runs for the batsmen and a half decent workout for the bowlers

Plenty of runs in the bank to give Bashir a load of overs as well.

Obviously I'd rather they just picked a competent spinner in the first place.
Very rude about the most experienced specialist bowler in terms of tests played in this England bowling attack

This is already the largest batting partnership in tests between these 2 countries beating the previous best 149 (achieved twice). Other records that could go are:

1. England's highest ever score in a test vs Zimbabwe is 472. They are on pace to beat that today.
2. England's highest individual score is 137 (Mark Butcher)
3. The highest ever between the 2 countries is Murray Goodwin (148no)
4. Most 6s in an innings - 2 (Alec Stewart)
5. Most runs by 4s and 6s - 90 (Mark Butcher)
Records No 1, 2, 3 and 5 all beaten, 4 equalled by Duckett and Pope.

Murray Goodwin being eradicated from the record books by a Surrey player?

Very harsh. A player of great promise

Yes it's harsh. Yes he's promising. Obviously I hope he comes out and bowls well and makes it look a ridiculous remark.

But the facts are his test bowling average is over 40 (and has been trending upwards), his first class bowling average is over 50, and this season for Glamorgan he's taken 3 Division 2 wickets at an average of 152 while conceding runs at over 4 an over.

24 runs needed in 6 overs to break test record for most runs on the opening day in any match in test history.

If Gooch's career runs I all formats had been ran and he had started heading west from Brighton he would have finished his runs in the USA.

I think.
Disappointingly, he's a bit short of that.

Scored 44846 FC runs and 22211 List A runs for a total of 67057. Works out to 838miles. So he'd have found himself adrift somewhere about 800miles northeast of the Azores.

Really puts his career in perspective. :lolol:
