This is bordering on obsession now. I don't think Crystal Palace supporters care half as much about us as some do them. The whole rivalry thing, any rivalry, when beyond pantomime is based in need for personal validation. In other words, needy.

Crystal Palace won the FA Cup. Folk just need to move on to things that really matter- because it really doesn't matter.
You know you're in a bad way when even Eeyore thinks you should cheer up.

Time to cheer up people! Every cloud blah blah blah

So I'll start the straw clutching:

Beyond the regular starters, their squad is ciggy paper thin. Demands of Europa league midweek will wreck them so surely nailed on for a tortuous relegation scrap next year

Glasner was already on many radars but is now red hot property- nailed on to be gone over summer. Why stay in that dump when he could be at Utd or Spurs🤔

Likewise the better players- Eze and Guehl will lead the stampede for a big pay day elsewhere knowing their price tag will never be higher and chances of fluking another trophy if they stay are exactly zero

Parish and the yanks will pocket the cash and leave pennies for the rebuild meaning even if they cling on next year the writing will be on the wall.

Shorthand- next time we meet they will be knackered, undermanned, leaderless bunnies in our headlights and those 6 glorious points are already as good as in the bag!
Silver linings and all that 👍🏻

No. It doesn't help.

I know quite a few Palace supporters.
They really aren't bothered about Brighton.
Any Brighton supporter under the age of 25, maybe 30, who has a thing about Palace,
is simply learning nonsense from their elders in the way millions learn about religion from their nan.
I'm too old to be bothered about Palace, and found the emergence of a rivalry
in the 70s to be rather silly.
It was much more spicy when the likes of Spuds made an occasional visit to the Goldstone.
And Millwall, of course, with their J cloth masks.
The Palace thing was like cosplay hooliganism for two lower ranked, not well-supported clubs.

Anyway, I always thought fighting and pretend fighting at football was pathetic,
lads whose dads beat them, having vicarious revenge?

Take all that away . . . . . yes, we have something to strive to emulate, now. A trophy.
Maybe we needed that to knock us out of our state of smug superiority,
with our lovely stadium, better owner, nicer pies, monorail etc.
Ambition is what football's all about.
And let's not forget,
Nobody grew taller or richer on bragging rights.
Nobody cured their depression with bragging rights.
Nobody became more of a man due to bragging rights.
If Brighton win the cup, my reaction won't be "phew, thank goodness we have put those bragging rights to bed",
I can sleep easily now I know that we are no longer second best to Palace. And Wigan. And....

I am sure someone will be along shortly to tell me I don't understand football. :lolol:
I don't give a f*** about that :lolol:

We are doing alright.

We are still in a better place than them.

They are as likely to f*** it up from here and build on their success.

Let em enjoy it while it last, well kick on from here.

The one advantage of them winning was that City didn't. That part was great.

I expect the only punishment City will get from the League will be being forced to pay the FA's lawyer fees (a large amount, but no problem for them). Knowing that City have won nothing this season has been very enjoyable.

We can now ditch that stupid song "Have you ever seen the Palace in the Dam"

They have some very good players and an excellent manager. Guehi will go this summer and I expect they’ll struggle to keep Wharton.
However, the key for them will be keeping Glasner. When he goes, this summer or next, they will struggle again. I think Glasner is one of the best Premier League managers in the last ten years.
However, for the time being, good for them. Their win should be an example of what can be done with a mid table budget and an inspiration for our Board and coach to better our position. Ultimately we have a deeper squad and better infrastructure.

I am really struggling with any part of them winning the FA Cup as being fantastic news, that is just a plain bloody weird idea for me as an Albion fan!

I was City through and through yesterday. I only turned the TV on at 30 mins when I saw they were losing. I felt like I was watching an upmarket Albion team playing Potterball at it’s most frustrating. I seldom get annoyed by any match that doesn’t involve the Albion but boy was I shouting at Pep’s shit “walk the ball into the net” tactics!

I think the problem is what should be nothing more than a minor irritant has, in some cases, become a quite disturbing outpouring of bitterness, almost grief. I'm genuinely concerned for folk who feel that way because it's a kind of voluntary submission to those emotions. One friend's posts were so angry yesterday it really disturbed me.
This is football. We react how we do in the moment. It's individual. Bring rivalry into the equation and reactions are likely to be more wide-ranging.

What you've referred to as a "quite disturbing outpouring of bitterness, even grief" is what others might see as a perfectly natural and reasonable reaction to our rivals winning the world's greatest domestic cup competition for the first time and beating us to it. It's significant.

After the 7-0 defeat to Forest, some were angry. Some shrugged it off or explained it away. And there were even a few that laughed.

Don't be concerned. Without getting into so-called superfan status, one could be equally concerned about those who don't appear to care as much.

It's not "voluntary submission to those emotions". Enough of the psychobabble already. I'm not a bigger man if I appear phlegmatic or 'rise above it'.

It's how rival fans react and is a part of the beautiful game. And I'm still bitterly disappointed that Palace won the Cup.

For me, it's not "nothing more than a minor irritant".

It never would be. And for me, it never should be.
