Hinsh has been preferred in centre mid. When Baleba wasn’t available, Fab even preferred Ayari as the deep lying centre mid. Even a newcomer like Gomez gets more game time there. Yes we aren’t Chelsea, we arent a club that can afford to write off 25 million so Wieffer gets minutes due to injuries
No Wieffer yesterday, we lose that game…imo

Think he really struggled with the step up in pace and physicality of the league which is a mile away from pace and intensity of Dutch league. Think playing at right back helped him as gets minutes without the pressure of starting in the midfield which is also how Hinshelwood adapted to the league before moving more centrally.

There was a time when I thought he was going to be another Dahoud situation but his performances of late suggest he is settling and looking like a real number 6 option in the squad

I think it will be Baleba and Weifer in MF next season. Weifer has started very few games there. Managers bringing Dunk back when our defence was playing so well and playing Weifer at RB with a fit Lampty and Veltman on bench are amng the strangest decisions this season. And of course saying for 2 weeks Mitoma is fit and not selecting him

If we keep Baleba. As the pivots, I thought that the moment we signed Wieffer, after checking out how St Pauli played.

Wieffer‘s contributed in CM throughout, in the unsung role tying it all together. Appreciated by many at the time.

There are some people who are starting to sound like they would pick him over a fit Veltman 🤣

He's a better RB than Tariq

I would! Veltman is now in the twilight of his career and injured more than often fit. Great squad player but unable to be relied on week in week out. A fit Wieffer in midfield or as a back is a better option now and will only get better as Velts becomes more of a liability against pace or breaking down in games

Best solution is a replacement for Velts though

I thought Wieffer was immense yesterday.

Interesting in today's press conference FH says he can see a future for Mats at right back and thinks he could play there for us moving forward - I wonder if that affects our transfer targets. I wouldn't be upset to see him starting there in August.

Get your tin hat on!!

I agree with you though, I think Mats is turning into a really useful player but a few on here are not impressed with him as a midfielder or a FB

Isn’t he covering for Ferdi and perma injured Veltman at the moment? So long since I’ve seen him I forget if he’s a LB, a RB or both! Who‘d have thought a poorly toe could keep a player out for so long! :lolol:

We need to replace Veltman too imo, no longer plays enough. Squad player, fine, but not as regular starter any more imo.

He's doing a good job but he doesn't anticipate & position himself like a RB because he isn't one. He gets away with it because he's a strong athlete & an excellent footballer but it's not a long term solution & a waste of his talent imo

Ferdi's a left back who can also play on the right. He was bought as competition for Pervis. Hence letting Barco go

Who is the competition for Veltman? I thought we let Barco go because he is a massive dick head allegedly, or is that just NSC hearsay?
