I know where you’re coming from, the 50mph starts incredibly far from the Ashcombe/Kingston roundabout.

But ignoring it leads to tickets ... in the last year the speed trap van visits that spot frequently, giving easy pickings on hundreds of drivers.

I believe the limit was introduced after a fatal collision involving a tractor coming out from a side road some way before the roundabout.

Just had a letter for 40 in a 30 using average speed cameras on A 281 , fairly new cameras near Bramley . My first offence for 40 plus years . What will I get ?

Band A offence (just), you’ll probably be offered a speed awareness course (similar cost to the £100 fine) which avoids any points on your licence

You might just want to check your insurance policy. For most, you do not have to declare this if you take a speed awareness course so it won't impact your premium but some do - I believe Admiral were one who ask you to declare.

Thanks , gladly take that
I know you will, but.... engage.
I did one online recently. In a group.
One bloke was clearly doing his emails. When asked a simple question it was clear he wasn't listening.
The conductor pulled him, announcing he was getting 3 points. :lolol:

Similar happened in mine - guy was looking after his kids whilst doing it, kept disappearing off screen to ‘cook their tea’. Instructor booted him out after a warning, telling him he’d be getting the points.

I have heard of this happening on many occasions.

I did mine in person - if you have one nearby they are quite enjoyable and it is easier to pay attention in person. You get some real characters which can make it entertaining.

Even attending in person, one guy was not paying attention and got a final warning from the people leading the course.

I found it way more interesting and educational than I expected, also online in a group. Thought it was going to be a borefest. Has definitely changed the way I drive in built up areas. Pleased I did it in retrospect.

I now drive a speed limited van, fully tracked, in a mix of rural and urban locations as my job.

The amount of people that overtake me, even when I'm going at the speed limit, is just mind boggling! Forget the slogan, 'it's a limit, not a target!'. For loads of people it seems that they're not even content with just hitting a target. The level of impatience and resulting dangerous driving is just staggering.

My question is, since people are obviously getting away with speeding on a very regular basis, why can't we just speed camera the fvck out of the whole country?

We've already got more CCTV cameras than most countries in the world, so any civil liberties argument has long since gone out the window.
Is it an economics stumbling block?, or just a lack of willingness by Government in a car-centric culture?

Better still everyone has to have a plug in black box, good drivers get discounted insurance, twats get hit in the pocket, also drink drivers over a certain amount banned for life

Are you both being serious?

How does that even work!?
You are invited to do an awareness course only if you have no points, or it is 3.5 years since your previous awareness course.
Three point offenses are wiped after 3 or 4 years (it has changed).
I have been done for speeding, just over the limit, 4 times when I had no points or had not been done for >3 years.

So the speed awareness courses aren't working then, clearly, if there's this level of repeat offending.

I am genuinely staggered at the lack of manners and aggressive impatient driving these days. I let people merge or out of turnings and often the person behind them tries to nip in as well. I am also hassled with cars right up my arse in areas where I am doing the speed limit. I admit I often break the speed limit on clear open roads but never, any more, in built up areas, so I am not an angel. Some just drive fast wherever they are though. Don’t get me started on traffic light burn ups

I do have a couple of high performance cars and everyone and their brother seems to want a burn up, wherever we are!

Speed awareness courses are great imo.
