Makes me wonder just how much of the goal is just for insider trading
not really, if you traded in any size it would be seen in the market, and market would react. there's no need to look beyond the stated reasons, they are quite conflicted and nonsense enough themselves.

and the market is largely over-reacting here too. the China tariffs need to come down to avoid seismic changes to retail and supply chains. expect prices to fade in next day or two until thats sorted.

Someone was buying before the announcement was made.

Trump and his nationalist advisors did not plan this all along. As spun tonight.

The rollercoaster for businesses in the US and elsewhere has created uncertainty, halting investment decisions. For the man in the street that means job losses.

Donald Trump's Approval Rating Collapses

President Donald Trump's approval rating has taken a dramatic hit, with new polls showing a sharp drop in support.

According to the latest Navigator Research poll, conducted between April 3-7 among 1,000 respondents, Trump's approval rating currently stands at 44 percent, while 53 percent disapprove, giving him a net approval of -9 points.

Other surveys show that the decline in Trump's rating is mainly being driven by voters' dissatisfaction with the economy.

That was amplified last week when Trump announced his new program of "Liberation Day" tariffs, which included a 10-percent baseline tariff on all imports, including those from U.S. allies and non-economically active regions, along with higher rates for countries with large trade surpluses with the U.S.

Trump's 46 percent approval rating is lower than Joe Biden's popularity at the same point in his presidency on April 9, 2021, when he stood at 55 percent, with a disapproval rating of 40 percent, according to RealClearPolitics.

Polls released in the days after Trump's inauguration showed his popularity at an all-time high. However, he was still the least-popular president in recent times.

Don't know if true quote but made me smile (Stolen from Guardian comments)..

Heard a quote from an unnamed presidential aid that goes something like "Our voters like to think we're helping Trump play 4D chess but mostly we are trying to stop him from just eating the pieces"
The playing a pigeon at chess analogy holds true - it knocks over all the pieces and shits uncontrollably over the board

YES.

I remember checking the world markets a few hours ago (well before the news broke on the 6 o'clock news), and noticed that all markets were down, apart from the Dow Jones and the Nasdaq, which were both up 2-3% at that stage.

Rumours creating mini buying surges, some would say the instigators want to make a quick buck.

Any recovery in the US markets is based on sand. There’s no sound reason why a US multinational’s shares should be just as attractive as a month ago. Their input costs will likely rise, supply chains be disrupted, their own export markets are at risk due to Trump destroying goodwill to the US. Aside from that, the US markets were hugely over inflated in a bubble with illogical PE ratios, caused solely by a self fulfilling stampede of global investors to Wall Street post pandemic.

The only reason for these mini price surges is greed, objectivity thrown to one side, people not wanting to miss out.

I'm watching him live introducing NASCAR drivers because they have always been proven to get the redneck purchases and votes. It's always been the best target market in numbers in the USA.

I'm not joking, this is an advertiser's dream, look it up

He's now taking all the credit for the markets soaring. Talking about it being record numbers and all that bullshit.

The guy is so far out of his depth, but somehow manages to pull the wool over so many people's eyes with lie after lie after lie. It's quite impressive in a downright disgusting way.

Golf too, is there a Ryder Cup this year? Their tax averse pro’s love Trump, led by his mate Dustin Johnson. The all white country club ethos.

I predict that Trump is one of the most important political people of all time.

... but not for the right reasons.

I predict that just as Marx predicted, he is creating the perfects conditions for extreme inequality of wealth and as a result, class consciousness. Just as Marx predicted, this will result in people revolting against the capitalist system and inadvertently resulting in communism.

America's fallacy and century old dogma that state ownership is bad will be ended as their reputation and their economy is destroyed. Services will be state owned and returned to the people. Those with extreme wealth will lose it, for the benefit of those that don't.

Revolution is probably coming as this capitalist system comes to its end.

Thank you Donald Trump.
