Starmer writes in the Sunday Telegraph.

Powerful opening that needs repeating:

First it was defence and national security. Now it is the global economy and trade. Old assumptions can no longer be taken for granted. The world as we knew it has gone. We must rise to meet the moment.

We are ready for what comes next. The new world is less governed by established rules and more by deals and alliances.

The rest is a combination of vague platitudes and “things we were already doing”, but PMs who aren’t called Boris don’t announce policy in newspaper columns.

I think Starmer gets the big picture and that is reassuring. However, the economic incompetence of Reeves, the control the unions have over the Labour Party and the general lack of understanding of the realities of running a business, household budget or coping with a disability by ALL politicians gives me little hope that Starmer’s awareness will achieve anything positive.

💯 I have the same concerns. Starmer talking yesterday about an “economic reset” made me hopeful that Reeves might have been overruled.

Unfortunately I fear that PMs who are called Kier don't actually have any policies.

Confirmation of the the intent to lower the voting age today:

"If you're old enough to pay your taxes, then you are entitled to have a say on how your taxes are spent." PM

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
..but not old enough to watch Nightmare on Elm Street or drive but you can determine how much tax I pay.

Ridiculous policy

The point is it’s also tax they pay.

..but not grown up enough to understand a horror film, yet they understand tax policy. Sounds sensible.

They are children!
Ah I remember the night I turned 18, I suddenly understood overnight the intricacies of tax policy, the full gamut of global diplomacy and industrial strategies which a mere 24 hours earlier had been complete mysteries to me, lost in the background of my knowledge of Fireman Sam and Thunderbirds.

"Rachel Reeves has declined to back calls for the UK government to launch a “buy British” campaign in response to Donald Trump’s tariffs, saying it would make Britain too “inward-looking”.

These days the younguns are MAGA-Reform :( .

I'm not so sure, despite poor Nige's efforts to be more inclusive, I think it's still mainly focused on jowl wobbling, gammon faced Brexiteers, but still open to the more recent paedophile and rapist apologists

We don’t need the government’s backing or approval to buy British.
