I assume he’s directing this at Maga folk. I don’t have an X account so can’t see the responses. That said, it’s a distraction either way - the answer to that question doesn’t prove or disprove the existence of a tape.
What’s more important is what Trump has done publicly. His actions generally favour Russia. The only reason the question “why” matters right now is what it tells us about how he can be influenced and what he’ll do next.

I utterly despise him but this isn't starting anything. It's retaliatory & Biden would've done the same & had done similar
But his whole shtick is that he will end everything and not continue to be involved in other countries' business.
No American ships appear to have been attacked, and the Houthi's threats were with regard to Israeli ships. So, not really retaliation. Seems to me as though it's a pre-emptive strike on behalf of Israel. As if they couldn't have done this themselves - they've plenty of their own weapons.
And this bit struck me as well - he can't help but stir things up can he. It's what he does.

I'm sure the Kootenai County Sheriff Harris, who violated a citizens constitutional rights and filmed it himself, would gladly take down that sign for the West Ada, Idaho teacher.
Unfortunately the trip from Couer d'Alene to Boise is over 380 miles.
