My eldery (obv) dad is on a cash crusade, bouyed by the Daily Mail etc.

Last year, he threw the "Use it or lose it!" slogan at me. I shrugged. It's really not much of a threat to those of us who aren't bothered about cash.

Anyway, he now he has a poster in a window. *cringe*

Your dad would enjoy reading Cloud Money by Brett Scott which is all about the war against cash and the manipulation of the general public by the powers that be.

I always have cash on me. Some local places eg caffs don't take cards. It's also a fallback option when the technology fails at parking meters etc. I take out about £200 at a time. It lasts for months.

As more & more places become card only do you still have cash in your pocket & if so roughly how much ?

often go for months without any, right now because away at Stoke yesterday, car parks etc, got £25. Will probably still be there in a few months!

It’s also useful when visiting places like Stoke, otherwise you’ll starve. Best to change your notes into fivers though.

I’ve had a 100 in my wallet for a while. Needed to dip into it yesterday to pay for parking at Longton rugby club and a programme. We still pay cash to the dog groomer and fish and chip shop so it will get used.

I always have a bit of cash in my car for parking etc. Having said that most of Brighton and Hove parking is not only cash free but now card free- the only option is to pay by phone which is a right ballache to use.

Cash is long gone, and so are bank branches. Several banks are now providing at home banking for those who have a genuine need through being disabled or being unable to use technology for any number of reasons (elderly, unsighted for example). I find in the main the people who are still bleating on about cash are those who want to cheat on their taxes (personal or business), those who are conspiracy theorists (big brother is watching everything I do) and those who believe everything the Sun/Daily Mail prints...

I've just had to raid my wife's purse* for a pound coin for the swimming pool locker. I (like normal) don't have any cash at all.

* I'll put it back after, honest.

The barbers where my boys like to go is cash only. Undoubtedly tax fiddling going on there, but that’s pretty much the only time I use it now.

I keep a bit of cash to pay tax dodgers who do work for me on the cheap. Other than that it’s a Monzo card or a bank transfer. Cash is dead. i was shocked to find a dry cleaners yesterday who only accept cash. dodgy springs to mind!

I'm still in Stoke, having spent a wonderful 2.5 days here. I've not used cash once anywhere. Even the burger van outside the ground is card now.

I was asked once after buying a Donner meat and chips at Huddersfield last time we visited if I had something smaller than a fiver. True story. It was £1.50.

Good to see the use of cash has gone back up.

Think it’s much better for budgeting and helping small businesses.

How does paying cash help small businesses?

Unless they are fiddling the books, I can’t see it makes a substantial difference to them.
