Don’t understand this. If we’ve met the current release clause then do Boca even have a decision to make. Surely we are at personal terms stage already?

And the fall back can be then to just bid the release clause amount over the weekend before it seemingly increases next week?
Assume so, seems to be either

- take this up front fee which is a bit short of release clause but includes a 10% sell on fee or
- we will activate the release clause on Monday before it goes up

Seems a bit of a no brainer to me for Boca (on the face of it seems like we are doing them a favour) and that only need to look as far a M. Caicedo.

* This is 99% likely to be wrong and is speculation based on speculation.

Why not just offer the full release clause now and avoid handing over £10m when we sell him for £100m in the future?

Charlie is well placed. Would rarely report something like this without strong confidence.

Charlie goes off other people’s tweets like one with 320k followers who just broke the story 🤣

Nothing wrong with it as he’s credited the source - but he’s not ‘well placed’ at all. The Argus journos are more ‘well placed’

I guess on the above tweet, that maintaining a decent relationship with one the biggest clubs in Argentina is a better strategic long term decision than just taking him for the release clause, even if technically you can.

It shows a bit of respect, and makes it more likely Boca will play ball in future.

It's 10% of nothing until we sold him for profit anyway. If we got 100m in future, then 80m profit and fairness to Boca seems a better idea than 90m and f*** you.

Having a good consenting long term relationship with Boca could be very useful indeed.

The Mac loan was great for us in the past but perhaps we’re playing nicely as we are eyeing some of their other players who don’t have buy-out clauses?

A cheeky friendly at La Bombonera wouldn’t be a bad outcome either. A global club like ours could surely do with a South American tour!

Boca are a wonderkid factory, getting in their good books isn’t going to do us any harm in the long run.

Also I’m sure it will have a wider effect in South America. Every club on the continent will be more willing to do business with us.

I took this to mean that our first bid was slightly under the release clause?
Surely not? That would be plain stupid, wouldn't it? If we mess around, before you know it some random London club will come in and it'll be Kudus MkII - if we want him, surely we should just go right in and plonk the release clause amount on the table straight away and get it over the line ASAP?
I mean, are we that desperate to save a few hundred thousand pounds that we'd risk blowing the deal? After all, in this day and age, in the world of the PL, £10M ain't exactly big bucks.
