The contrast between Gilmour/Mitoma and Dahoud/Milner was huge. There was zero threat in the first half really. I’m being patient, but yet to see much that Dahoud really brings beyond a ‘keeping things ticking over’ baseline contribution.
The first half midfield set up was quite bizarre though. Baleba was behind the defenders, Lalana upfield with Dahoud trotting around on his own.

But that's not on Dahoud, is it?

As others have said with Dahoud, Milner & The Lana in the same team this sort of response was always likely.

The issue is with selection not one individual.

The 3 together is Stoke away or even Arsenal away AFTER Marseille.

I get that yesterday's team was the pre Marseille side, but playing all 3 has now burned the Marseille matches as well.

Hes just not very good. Bit of a space cadet. Gets caught on the ball, usnt a quick passer. Always does 3 things in a game that makes the optimist in me want to think he's about to emerge but he never really does. My biggest issue with him is he's an absolute fanny in the tackle. Conspicuous avoided of it. Especially compared to the tenacity of the likes of macallister. Even Gilmour, Buonanotte etc don't mind getting stuck in. A real pre-requisite when you play lightweight ball-playing midfields.

He wasn't the only one who had a shocker. Lallana was horrible and got worse as the half went on and the Milner experiment is beyond stale. I just don't believe that an 18 year old Hinsh can't play on a Saturday and Thursday and was an immediate threat when he came on. Instead we sacrificed an entire attacking side for a whole half

Sooner we get rid of Milner , Dahoud and Lana the better , none of these players are influential enough any more ,
afraid to say need to move them off in January, and get some replacements in the better

ThecBaleba position was the same as against Brentford. I think the idea was to make a passing 3 at the back and push the cbs wide and the fullbacks narrow into a bigger passing box.

Fir this game though it didn't really happen. Burnley didn't press so it didn't pull them out of shape and the full backs especially milner was going really high and wide. Which left the cbs really slowly passing around each other for ages while milner got frostbite on the line.

He can't or at least ought not play, Wednesday, Saturday, Thursday.
Certainly not when the Thursday game is so important.

Our 2 strikers shouldn't have played 90 minutes yesterday v Derby-Lite, but they did.

With lallana you'd hope that he's the result of injuries - I'm not sure how much we'd see of him if Enciso and Wellbeck were fit.

Dahouds not good enough.

The full back situation is unforgiveable really. Every man and his dog could see it coming.

We played with TWO strikers yesterday?*

*only joking Evan - you're young and we all have off days.

Baleba just doesn’t look anything near a £30m player either to be fair and he was an algorithmic choice.

Baleba's 19, very inexperienced and in a new league. I'd say he's doing well. The fee was high but we're investing in potential.

I'd say he's doing pretty well so far.

Dahoud is interesting.

Great touches when he has time and space, but that’s continental leagues not the PL. He looks like he’s struggling to adapt, but then he never gets a run of games and also had slower players alongside him yesterday, so what chance does he have?

I never think he looks that happy either (probably because he wants to play), and wonder if he’ll go in January, regardless of playing numbers.

All a bit of a shame really….. thought he might light the league up a little….

On the Hinsh point. Of course he can. I think you aren’t quite understanding the reason for him not. 18 year olds that burst on to the scene at the top level and play loads of minutes end up being done in their late 20’s as their bodies are ruined. Decent clubs who aren’t just about short-term gain try and protect these kids by managing their minutes over the course of the season. Same reason Ferguson doesn’t play every minute of every game like Dunk does - of course they could do it if we wanted them to, they are kids still. But we don’t want to ruin them.

……and Dahoud on his own with 2 or 3 Burnley players around him. This was very evident in the first 20 mins or so.

I think criticism of Mo is over the top, not his best game for sure but if he’d have played as a sub against the Burnley of the second half retreating and defending virtually the entire time I doubt he’d be getting such extreme criticism. But he got the bit of the game when many of our players were struggling with the unfamiliar combinations that the boss picked

This is very unfair on Dahoud. As has been mentioned with Gross at FB and Baluba so often behind the defenders and no comment on Lalanas contribution was very much on his own. With mind on mid week De zerbi trying something different that lets face it didnt work. Still rememember Balebas debut when he made lots of forward runs and here he is so often playing 3rd CB.

Reading up on Dahoud’s playing style at Dortmund, he has a lot more to offer. Why we‘re not seeing this at the moment we can only speculate. I guess we can draw some parallels with Mac Alister, in and out of the first team and no great shake in his first season with us. Things then changed in the second season.

Seems to be a second or two behind the pace of the league. Would not be upset or surprised if we cash in come January or the summer. Can’t win them all

excellent point - there was a thread at some point that summer suggesting we should sell MacAllister

Good post and very fair.

I do think he needs games though.
