What's all this about needing 1 more point ? Goal difference ?
If City batter us 6-0 and we lose 5-0 to Villa….we’ll still be in Europa League on goals scored!

Palace would have qualified in 1990 had English clubs not been banned (3rd in league)

It's bound to be raised with us.
If English clubs hadn't been banned, the other clubs would've been able to get better players, and they'd have finished above Palace.

Yeah, but if City beat us 5-0 and we lose 6-0 to Villa, we're down to 7th.

Qualifying fee €3.6m
Group stages
Each win €630k
Each draw €210k

Win group €1.1m
Runners up €550k

Qualify for R16 €1.2m
Qualify for QF €1.8m
Qualify for SF €2.8m
Runner up €4.6m
Winners €8.6m

So winning group with (say) 10 points and winning competition = €20.6m plus market pool and UEFA coefficient (which will be low, each team is ranked out of last 10 years in Europe and given €132k per place)
Hardly worth getting out of bed for, then.

But what price glory?

I'm IN!

We have basically qualified for the Europa League on GD if Villa and Citeh beat us - mathematically, however, if we concede 16 goals between Citeh and Villa, Villa go above us on GD (not sure of maths here!) so we effectively need 1 point from either match to absolutely confirm it (that’s why RDZ was careful not to give ‘false information’ 🙂

As it stands, we are in the Conference (but as RDZ said ‘we don’t want to be in the Conference!)

City might even give some kids debuts… knowing fielding a weakened team won’t alter any league positions and therefore retain integrity of competition.
Was absolutely key to win today

So a win against Marseille would be worth about £0.9m?

Do we get any extra income from the qualifying games we need to play should we finish 2nd?

How much have we made so far from our run and qualification?

I worked it out that we've currently won 5.73m (Euros). 3.63 for qualifying, three x .63 wins and one .21 draw. That'll increase to 7.46m if we win the group. (Another .63 for beating Marseilles, and 1.1m for topping the group. Minimum we'll get is 6.28m (defeat against Marseille, but .55m for coming 2nd in the group).

A win against Marseille is worth a lot more than that.

As well as the win bonus of £540,000 we'd get another £944,000 for winning the group and another million for reaching the last 16. So winning that game is worth nearly £2.5 million in prize money (plus 2 less games to play this season).

Finishing runners up would net us £470,000 and we'd get a further £430,000 for being in the play off round.

So far we've won just short of £5 million for getting to the group stage, 3 group stage wins and a group stage draw. With more to come obviously depending on if we finish first or second.

Of course, we'd get ticket sales etc for the extra games, but yes, financially better to beat marseille

There would be three payments for winning against Marseille, a group stage win payment of about £540k, a winning the group payment of about £940k, and a making it to the last 16 payment of about £1M
A draw would pay about £180k, and £470k for finishing second, and give us a play off game worth about £430k if we win it, and winning would put us into last 16 so £1M payout.
Losing would pay just the £470k for finishing second, and the play off game worth £430k if you win, plus the bonus for getting to last 16.

So win v Marseille is worth about £2.5M
Draw v Marseille and win play off games is worth about £2.1M
Lose v Marseille and win play off games is worth about £1.9M
Draw and fail in play offs is worth £650k
Lose and fail in play offs is worth £470k

No idea if there is a profit in tickets for the extra play off games, but assuming it's neutral you could view a win against Marseille as being worth about £2M, as that is the difference between winning and losing and failing to progress, or maybe only £400k and a bye to the last 16, because if we draw and win the playoff, that will be the difference.

EDIT, I may have it wrong about winning or losing the playoffs having a payout, it may just be for being in the playoffs, both sides get £430k, winner gets the last 16 payment of about £1M, in which case, the last two payouts I listed would be £1.08M and £900k meaning the difference between winning and losing and not progressing is £1.6M not £2M.

Bloody hell, I hope we avoid the play-off round. Could end up having to play the likes of Mbappe and PSG.

That's probably not great for TB compared to the costs of squad depth strengthening.......

but its kudos, its European Competititon, it increases profile of the club, and for us fans it's priceless
Enough to cover P&R and buy some of our own buses

The prize money for each knock out round is paid to every club in that round, regardless of if they win or lose. Obviously the bonus for the winners is they then get the payment for getting into the next round. Both the finalists get about £4 million with the winners getting another £3.4 million on top.
