Law Of Tehran.

Was only at the cinema a few months. Part Michael Mann cop and drug dealer thriller, part an almost documentary on the damage of drugs in Iran. Really excellent

Has Eastern Promises had a mention on here?

Watched it last night, both horrific and gripping. Highly recommended and I dislike Russians even more after watching it

Coming very soon, The Sixth Commandment.

A brand new four-part true crime drama that explores the deaths of Peter Farquhar and Ann Moore-Martin in the village of Maids Moreton, Buckinghamshire, and the extraordinary events that unfolded over the following years.

Penned by Sarah Phelps it stars Timothy Spall (Barry, Barry TaylorView attachment 162219 ) and Last Tango In Halifax’s legendary Anne Reid.

It tells the story of how the meeting of an inspirational teacher, Peter Farquhar (Timothy Spall), and a charismatic student, Ben Field (Éanna Hardwicke), set the stage for one of the most complex and confounding criminal cases in recent memory. It also focuses on how suspicions around Field’s relationship with Ann Moore-Martin (Anne Reid), Peter’s deeply religious neighbour, unlocked a series of chilling revelations.
The four-part series will be shown on Monday and Tuesday nights for two weeks.

The Sixth Commandment: Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th July, 9pm, BBC One (y)

This looks promising.

Wolf is based on the late, great Mo Hayder’s acclaimed Jack Caffery novels, and stars Ukweli Roach in the lead role.

DI Jack Caffery is a young detective beset by nightmares. Obsessed with the neighbour he believes murdered his 10 year-old brother in the 90s, Jack finds himself trying to right the wrongs of others – but at what cost? In an isolated house in Monmouthshire, the wealthy Anchor-Ferrers family find themselves the victims of a psychopath’s cruel games, trapped and terrorised. When the two narratives collide, it’s a thrilling, nail-biting and deeply disturbing race against time.

French film Piranha's is supposed to be very good, but I haven't seen it.
Irish film Good Vibrations is very good, I know because I have seen it.

Just finished Clean Sweep which I've just read the Beeb have acquired for BBC Four. The six-part thriller series stars Charlene McKenna and was originally shown on RTE.

Inspired by true events, it follows a seemingly ordinary housewife, Shelly Mohan (McKenna), a mother of three, married to a Garda detective (Barry Ward). On the surface, all seems normal until her dark past comes back to haunt her.

Pretty enjoyable stuff, recommended.
Starts on Saturday.......

Blue Lights has all episodes available on iPlayer.

They might as well hand over the Bafta's now. It's brilliantly written and superbly acted.
I'm finding it very disturbing and I'm sure the Northern Ireland Tourism Board won't be sharing any snippets in their advertising campaigns.

It's well worth a watch and very thought provoking.
Series 2 unsurprisingly in production now, should be out early '24.

The lovely, gorgeous Ruth Wilson returns in what's described as a “gothic thriller” BBC One series The Woman In The Wall.

The six-part series also Daryl McCormack, and the BBC says it examines examines the legacy of one of Ireland’s most shocking scandals – the institutions known as The Magdalene Laundries.

Lorna Brady (Wilson) is a woman from the small, fictional Irish town of Kilkinure who wakes one morning to find a corpse in her house. Chillingly, Lorna has no idea who the dead woman is, or if she herself might be responsible for the apparent murder. That’s because Lorna has long suffered from extreme bouts of sleepwalking ever since she was ripped from her life at the age of 15 and incarcerated in a convent. There, Lorna gave birth to her daughter Agnes, who was cruelly taken from her and whose fate Lorna has never known.

Unluckily for Lorna, Detective Colman Akande (McCormack) is now also on her tail, for a crime seemingly unrelated to the body she has discovered in her house. The ambitious Colman quickly rose through the ranks of the Garda Síochána thanks to his natural aptitude. His scathing wit hides a quiet sadness, and when he meets Lorna Brady, he finds himself forced to confront his own haunting secrets.

As Colman searches for a murderer and Lorna searches for her daughter, their paths collide in ways they could never have anticipated. Lorna’s search for Agnes will take her deep into her own past and to the heart of Kilkinure’s darkest secrets, as she and Colman seek the answers they each so desperately need.
