Giving something back to the community they came from. What's not to like?
Off the pitch, Zaha appears to be a genuinely nice guy and generous to his community.

Struggling to think what AFC stands for?
Non funny answer, Association Football Club
You'd think so, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't stand for anything at all (in that, their official name is actually AFC Whatever).
Similarly from a quick skim on Wikipedia I gather Bournemouth have AFC in front of their name just to appear at the top of alphabetical lists.
Whereas Sunderland, for example, are actually called Sunderland Association Football Club.

Not true. They are called AFC Bournemouth because Bournemouth FC went bust.
I suggest you direct your complaint to the writers of various football club / AFC Bournemouth history websites, who say the name changed in the early 70s to put them at the top of alphebetised lists.

In any case, it doesn't alter my point that the AFC bit doesn't officially stand for anything other than AFC.

I think there is a bit more to it that that here though.

They were 'born' out of the demise of Croydon Athletic FC - which went bust because the owner was involved in cricket match fixing. And there is/was already a Croydon FC. So, I guess the AFC is a nod to the 'rebirth' of CAFC, and it could well be that the A stands for 'Athletic'.

Although, to muddy the waters, I see the official name of the club is actually 'AFC Croydon Athletic'. So maybe not!!

To be clear, I've no doubt at all that we're all meant to assume it stands for Association Football Club.
It's just they haven't bothered to include that in the official name, presumably because no rational people would care. :lolol:

Exactly, would it really start with Association? Just to get it to the top of the list like many others, Wimbledon for eg. All seems a bit silly.
