Point of order / cast iron bullshit and I'm clearly no fan of Corbyn.

The reality is the Tories were "hobnobbing" with the IRA throughout the 1980s behind the scenes trying to find a resolution, only telling the electorate that they "didn't do deals with terrorists.". They lied, as they lie about other secret forms of "diplomacy" with threats whether that be through the foreign office, the security services or a combination of both. It's what Governments do.

.. and lets face it, The Tories were down in Argentina before the Falklands War trying to offload the islands. If the internet was around back then they'd have probably listed them on eBay.

The likes of Red Ken and Uncle Jeremy were only doing in public what the Tories were doing in private.

It's complete hypocrisy to attack them for doing so.

No, this bit you posted is key....... behind the scenes trying to find a resolution,

What kind of resolution were Ken and Jeremy seeking?

These are in no way equivalent.

However, the invention of stories (vide 'council bans baa baa black sheep') gave the impression of a committed conspiracy. In retropect perhaps it was nothing more than a few drucken hacks having a laugh.
Harry - in the later years of my none-too-illustrious working life, I worked for local councils - or one local council anyway. These things weren't 'invented' (though I can't specifically vouch for the veracity of a ban on baa baa lack sheep) - they actually happened. Fact. Sorry.

Yes, I'm sure they shouldn't have. I'm sure there was much bollocks involved ................ and I'm absolutely certain that much jollity, mirth and scorn was poured upon it - but to say it didn't happen, that it was just something cooked up by opponents of your political views? ................... no sorry, it was out there, and it was real.

Irony? Based on your username, also the time of day you are posting and your bad faith posting I wouldn't feel flattered in turn if I was you. Watching you back peddle, obfuscate and become increasingly negative has a certain amusement value. I would lay of the booze though if I was you.
My username suggests I'm from Sussex. The time of day I'm posting suggests I had a late day at work (I got the train home at 20:52). Your username suggests you live in Australia or are Australian and have nothing better to worry about. Of course if I'm wrong... I actually don't care all that much. I'm long since past worrying about convincing random people on the internet.
If you're not familiar with the Conservative party's links to Russian money, I suggest googling it, you won't gain anything from me posting links from any given news site.
That's not how you spell backpedal.
Alas, I am an alcoholic. I'm assured if I take up smack as well I'll become a jazz legend like all my heroes.

Crawley may be the obvious clue I'm from Sussex. I'm glad your not worried about convincing people on the internet because your "Crap" at it. Crap isn't an argument, and the onus is for you to provide evidence of your claims.

It's completely equivalent. The only difference being they didn't lie about.

If my memory serves me well in the 1980s, we were told constantly that the Government refused to talk to terrorists and they attacked others who did labelling them as "anti-patriot"

In reality they were doing just that. You can swallow any bullshit you like, but the Conservative party historically has been highly hypocritical and quite happy to openly tell porkies (on huge issues such as Northern Ireland) for their own preservation.

All Governments lie of course, but the utter oddness of the Tories is they are quite happy to do the "right thing" in private, but attack those who are doing the same publicly.

Governments usually try to cover up being nasty, the Tories often wear the nasty like a badge on honour.

Is the Dingo part an obvious clue you live in Australia then? Or is that just a guide as to the intellectual level we can expect?
I only have to provide evidence to people I have the slightest interest in convincing, and I couldn't care less what you think about me or anything else.

The obvious clue you’re from Crawley is that you’re a clueless arse.

Baa baa black sheep was made up. Other stuff was made up.

That doesn't mean that labour councils didn't do crazy things, like making Lambeth a 'nuclear-free' zone, and banning competitive sports at schools.....

Albeit given the emerging opprobrium surrounding the behaviour of parents at kids' football, maybe the latter wasn't so daft after all - (I am in favour of competitive sports and the banning of competitive parents).

And my original point stands. A right wing (or merely pissed up) media made up stories about labour councils.

On top of that (and I was told this by someone who did this) there was a great wheeze whereby a story could be made up and become "true". The journo would ring up the council late on a Friday afternoon, when many employees and leaders had gone home, get through to a low level employee, and ask them to comment on the new initiative (to do something mad and...made up, like banning all school library books that included the words blackmail and blacksmith because this is racist). The low level employee, not having heard about any of this (because it was made up) would say "er...I'm sure that any decision to, er, make any such decision would have been taken after, er, due consideration and consultation".

Next day the headline would be "Labour council defends the banning of the word blacksmith".

Meanwhile also (and I realize this is whataboutery, but given the above it is reasonable), tory councils were four square behind foxhunting.

My point is that in the great scheme of things, if you are thinking about whether to vote labour or tory, it would be foolish to make a decision based on newspaper stories about labour councils in the 1980s and 90s.

All that may be true. I, however, am speaking of actual personal experience working for a local council. in the noughties, not the 80s or 90s. Not everything you dislike is made up!

You've made the point twice without actually speaking of your personal experience.

What are the stand out examples at that council?

Well I agree with you about the Tories imo the second most corrupt party in the West after the US Democrats. When I said hob nobbing with terrorists I mean those who agenda is stacking bodies, corruption is universal. So ignoring bringing up the Tories is a bit whataboutery my point holds, Hizbollah, Hamas etc are genocidal maniacs.

In 2013 Jeremy Corbyn was awarded the Gandhi International Peace Award for his "consistent efforts over a 30-year parliamentary career to uphold the Gandhian values of social justice and non‐violence".[600][601] In the same year, he was honoured by the Grassroot Diplomat Initiative for his "ongoing support for a number of non-government organisations and civil causes".

In 2017 the American magazine Foreign Policy named Corbyn in its Top 100 Global Thinkers list for that year "for inspiring a new generation to re-engage in politics". In December 2017 he was one of three recipients awarded the Seán MacBride Peace Prize "for his sustained and powerful political work for disarmament and peace".

Every Christmas Day for the past 30 years he can be found in a homeless centre serving up Christmas dinner not as a photo opportunity but because like all the things he does he feels it is the right thing to do.

He has been an advocate of anti war nuclear disarmament and has gone out of his way to engage with organisations and states that are not aligned with the UK government of the time his view being war never resolves anything but ultimately is talking that changes things.

sometimes he has been right other times not so as I believe that stopping Putin is as essential as stopping Hitler was in 1939

His time as labour leader saw the biggest rise in membership of the Labour Party one outstanding set of election results and another best not mentioned

He is fearlessly true to his beliefs being those of the left wing of the Labour Party which has always been as they say an inclusive big tent

Is he racist I don’t think he is but I cannot see inside someone’s head but why he would not accept the full international definition of ani semitism I find difficult to understand.

Sir Keir has removed the whip and suspended him going on to state he will not stand as a Labour candidate at the next election he says he will stand as an independent candidate which must greatly reduce his chances of reelection

As such we may be saying goodbye to one of the very last true left wingers left in parliament who has his faults but a principled individual and British politics will be the worst for it

British politics needs everyones views to be heard left right centre and extreme to truly and fairly reflect the views of all our current political system is broken beyond any meaningful repair, Labour is saying it will abolish the House of Lords and that’s a start but ultimately our political structure it’s institutions and archaic buildings are unfit for today let alone the future proportional representation, New Parliament buildings and a complete overhaul of what government role is
