Florian Andone or Deniz Undav, both play(ed) in similar positions as strikers, both singed for peanuts, (the Brighton way), which of the two would you rather see in an Abion shirt?

I know my answer.

I thought Undav played quite well in the FA Cup game.

Some nice touches in link up plays.
I think some of his link up play doesn’t get noticed and is very skilful and quick. Ball control is under par with others in the team. He is not fully up to speed with De Zerbi ball but then he hasn‘t played much and certainly hasn’t had a run. Ferguson blossoming and Welbeck staying fit won’t be helping. I like him and had my head in my hands when he absolutely skied that sitter from a couple of yards out. Looked and was terrible and gave credence to those who think he’s not good enough, I like him. We are only likely to see him get a run if Welbeck or Ferguson get suspended or injured for a few games though.Pleased he scored the opener, real shame about the miss.

Andone was a head case and I don’t think they are comparable as team players, although he also knew where the net was.

I think Undav did well Sunday, scored 1st goal had another chance which he ballooned over which, many others have done the same so won't knock him for that. His link up play is good and given time and more 1st team action he will improve. More to the point, he doesn't strop considering he doesn't get much game time and is prepared to keep fighting for his place.

Undav seems to have a cooler head, which means he won't end up missing countless games through suspension. Andone had his moments, but I don't think he'd get into this squad.

Undav... of course. Andone is not good enough for the Spanish second division.

Undav may or may not be good enough for Brighton (my guess is that he goes to another top 5 league this summer), but in either case he is at least quite close to that level.

Andone is batshit crazy, a liability and currently towards the end of a substantial downhill trajectory in form (which, arguably, wasn't that high to begin with).

Undav seems a level headed guy, works hard and is dependable, is currently playing 'ok' and scoring goals, and is (hopefully) on the start of an uphill trajectory in form.

I know my answer.

Mitoma absolutely skied a sitter from about two yards out on Sunday as well. Not any doubts about him though.

I don’t think Potter particularly liked Andone, I’m not sure Hughton did either.

Where as RDZ sees Undav as a challenge, he wants to get tons of goals out of him. He mentioned him lost Grimsby stating how essential he’ll be during our packed fixture list for the rest of the season.

I’d love him to be our Ole Gunnar Solskjær (same height). Not first choice but full of goals every time he makes an appearance. He seems like a natural goal scorer to me, we don’t have many of those. I look forward to many more goals from him.

Undav quite easily for me, much better all round play.

Think we need to improve next season though (and that includes Welbeck).

I have changed my “how frustrating is he to watch?” mantle this season from Solly to Danny, just for his ineptness in front of goal :lolol:

In fairness he has been subject to some of the best penalty box tackles of the season from the opposition when it looked like a tap in!

Welbeck has been foiled by two of those ‘great tackles’ in the last week. Once by Doucore, when he looked certain to score from Groß’ pull-back, and once on Sunday, when after a nice bit of skill took him past one lad, the right back came flying across to cover.

in BOTH situations, even a modicum of commitment from a sharper, hungrier player would have seen him get there first, and either get his shot away, or at the least get to the ball first and potentially be awarded a penalty.

Totally agree with this. But I suppose we didn't sign Welbeck purely for his sharpness - he's getting on a bit. I'd like to think he offers plenty behind the scenes as well as being a reliable front man without pulling up any trees.

As for Undav, I've not seen anything that makes me think we should be giving up on him anytime soon. He may yet come good, and some take longer than others. What's more, I'd say far more of our fans than in the past are beginning to feel the same way about new, inexpensive players: don't write them off, give them time*. Solly March and Lewis Dunk might both have been written off at different points in the Amex era, and look at the pair of them now. We are not Arsenal or Man City, we're not even Aston Villa or West Ham - we can't sign proven Premier League players for obscene transfer fees. This is the way it's got to be and I for one am comfortable with it.

*It works both ways of course, as in the sad case of Aaron Connolly who after a bright start seemed to throw it all away.

Too slow perhaps? 😉
