Gary Lineker is to step back from presenting Match of the Day until an agreement is reached on his social media use - BBC statement.
It follows an impartiality row over comments he made criticising the government's new asylum policy.
In a tweet, the presenter had compared the language used by the government to set out its plan to "that used by Germany in the 30s".

I'm not really fussed from a presenting standpoint as imo Mark Chapman is better and much more knowledgeable, however I do find it worrying/laughable how much coverage has been given to a football presenter stating his opinion on Twitter.

He isn't allowed to privately tweet about politics and present on the BBC, crazy IMO.

This is shameful. Is free speech only for right wing people now? In what universe is a sports commentator's view anything to do with BBC news impartiality? I'm very much on the fence on this. Part of me thinks it's another example of over sensitivity but he must appreciate he's one of the most well know public figures employed at the bbc. He should probably realise different rules apply to him with regards to voicing an opinion
