No shit Sherlock
please revisit once the fire sale has occurred and AM
& MC have departed for pastures new
Here have a 🦐 to put on the barbie to keep ya going

Who said it's a fire sale?

It's people discussing how this model doesn't necessarily allow for continuity or sustained success as evidenced by no club who has tried it has challenged for anything.

If you'd told anyone back in the days of the Trevor Francis transfer that BHA fans would one day be relatively 'meh' about a £27m player sale they'd think you were either mad or some unhinged cyborg assassin from the future, quite possibly both.

We've done brilliantly in the transfer market, brilliantly with player development and I agree with the sale of Trossard.

But I can't think of a single club in any division ever, who has consistently sold their best players and managed to replace them on a long term basis. Sure there have been plenty who've got away with it for a season or two, but it's caught up with them in the end.

To me that's the only warning. At some point we're going to have to stand our ground and refuse offers for players we consider irreplaceable, or the laws of football gravity will catch up with us eventually.

Spot on.

Totally realistic oversight of the issues faced and the end result if a line isn't drawn in the sand more regularly.

It is negative- ‘we won’t be stronger’ is negative
I thought losing Potter would weaken us. I was wrong, massively.

Actually it's a positive assessment of the talent that Caicedo is.

You don't just easily replace such a player of that talent at that age.

To do so could cost a small fortune, one I doubt we'd pay.

Exactly. We hope it will last for a long time. But we know it can’t last forever. Unless you’ve been smoking something, and are a bit of an Oddball.

We haven't sold our best players. White wasn't even our second best defender, for example. Tossard wasn't even in recent squads.

It isn't what it isn't.

You can’t pick and choose 🤷‍♂️
I think you’ve misunderstood my point - by being 2 down in our 25 man squad I’d like to think we could fill those gaps with new faces that would be ready to step into the match day squad any time this season if needed

….like refusing to sell Caicedo in this window ?
We’ve sold one stroppy want-away who wasn’t starting anyway

How often do we sell in this window though?

Almost never.

Which is why as fans we know these rumours are nonsense because of our past history in this window.

We all know how this works. We flog a player and the replacement is already here. Mitoma was always the replacement for Trossard, Caciedo likewise for Bissouma. The trouble for us is that Mitoma and Caciedo are progressing so quickly, I don't think their replacements are ready or even here. That's coupled with the loss of the unfortunate Mwepu and Moder being out long term, we appear to be a bit short in the middle.

I'm sure we will stand firm for Caciedo. His importance to us is worth more than Chelsea's cash. He is irreplaceable at the moment.

It would be a bit of reassurance if we saw a replacement for Trossard join us this window - we need some cover should Mitoma get injured, or is Sarmiento considered to be that player ?
Against Arsenal we got trashed with our two top midfielders out league leaders or not it was to easy for them. I would love to know who the two up and coming Mac and Moses replacements are as apparently they will be better 🙄 we’ve also lost our head of recruitment who was around when every single one of these super young talented players was signed. We have no idea what the future holds now. Obviously Forfana was one of his finds as they very quickly signed him.

Our destiny is eventual relegation. We’re not about to embark on decades of top flight stability.

But all good things come to an end, nothing lasts forever etc. Naive to think Brighton will uniquely enjoy permanent sunlite uplands? Or utopia as it’s otherwise called.

"… Happy talk, keep talkin' happy talk,
Talk about things you'd like to do.
You got to have a dream,
If you don't have a dream
How you gonna have a dream come true?
… If you don't talk happy,
And you never have dream,
Then you'll never have a dream come true!"

Caicedo hadn’t even started a premier league game this time last year. But we did buy Billy Gilmour in the summer with an eye to his departure, and Moder is due back soon (although who knows how both will develop).
Sarmiento, Adingra, Buonanotte, Enciso, Ferguson though seem a decent set of forwards to replace Trossard or even Mitoma (if he fades/gets injured) - even if only 1-2 of them progress as much as Caicedo did.
And Estupinan was bought AFTER we sold Cucurella. He’s turned out ok so there’s always that option too…
