With the World Cup fast approaching and Maguire and Mings not getting game time, Southgate must be casting his eye over alternatives. The two English defenders in the league's meanest backline have to be in contention. The question is, will Gareth give Dunk and/or Webster the chance in one of the two upcoming Nations League matches. A ready-made pairing with the added bonus of their experience alongside White in a 3.

It seems to obvious to ignore but I reckon Southgate might do just that. Poll to follow.

I'm quite happy for Gsouth to ignore them both.

Brighton players are far too cultured for England duty, why play down?

Stones and Maguire could both not kick another ball before the world cup starts and still get picked,if Dunk or indeed Webster did get a call from Southgate I'd be inclined to just block him like they've been doing to most attacks for 3 years :hilton:

Depends on GS is interested in saving England in the Nations League A division, or if he is more interested in taking a look at players that could be useful for the World Cup. If the former is important to him, it will probably be pretty much the same gang as usual as they know his tactical directives etc.

He will be casting his eyes but that Albion blindfold won’t be being binned imo

The waistcoatwanker will pick those players in good form, so Mingpiece and Fridge it will be. They will get the nod because he trusts them, or such other shite reason. The useless kuunt.

We REALLY need to get over this one :lolol:

I was in the Dunk's time has past camp but with Maguire and Mings not playing and Lewis's fine form, I'm not so sure.

Webster was reportedly under consideration before his last injury so there's certainly no reason to think he's not in with a shout.

Dunk and Webster will have every opportunity to play for England.

The good news is that they'll only have to wait about 3-4 months longer for the new manager.

Look at the Table for goals conceded. Clearly our defensive unit not up to International standards, Southgate will have to look elsewhere...

Sadly, both are not only behind Maguire, Stones and Mings in Genoese Gareth’s thinking. They’re also behind Guehi, Justin, Coady, Tomori and Dier to play CB.

Dunk is probably behind Tarkowski as well.

We really have a CB issue

Maguire/Coady/Mings are awful.

White is switching between RB/CB for Arsenal.

Southgate has ignored Dier/Dunk/Webster completely.

He seems to prefer calling up 5 RBs and sticking one at CB

Southgate has a core 5 / 6 players he trusts and will call up regardless of form. Kind of makes sense as bringing in new players with 1 international window left is risky , especially looking at defenders.

Also Ben White will at least be ahead of them you’d think

I think he’ll be selecting Dier along with any Palace or Villa English centre backs he can find if Maguire/Coady/Mings are benched, injured and horrifically out of form.

Dunk, Webster and Burn don’t stand a chance. White will always struggle because of his Brighton association.

Southgate does not do Brighton players.

You don't think Webster has a decent chance?

Not with Southgate and I don't care any more. Either one of them gets to sit on the bench in the Middle East and risk injury in training or they get to put their feet up for a month. They're not going to start. Walker will play RCB to accommodate one of our gazillion right backs, Stones will start and that leaves one of the old favourites. As much as every player wants to represent their country I'd rather they were relaxing and staying injury free.

Needs additional option “both should play for England” as it’s the best English defence in the country
