As I'm sure many others are, I'm on that nextdoor neighbour internet thingy. This morning some silly old bint was saying that the hosepipe ban didn't effect Brighton and Hove. Just before I put the silly old bint straight, I decided to checkout the link to Southern Water here https://www.southernwater.co.uk/drought-restrictions

Well bugger me backwards, it appears the people's republic of Brighton and Hove is exempt, Who'd have thunk it

I've run my water butts dry now, what with the lack of wet stuff falling from the sky.
Luckily, with the wife and eldest daughter showering like the stuff is free, I have enough grey water to sustain my garden through to the next ice age!

West Sussex wasnt included in the ban. So I'm alright jack. Me, me, me me.

Not that I ever water the plants - the other half does.

I am a silly old bint, and I am in the area with a hosepipe ban, but I’ve received an email to say I’m exempt. Yes, I am classed as ambulant disabled, and I can carry a watering can, but SE Water don’t know that. I think it’s caring to email all priority customers.
I won’t be using a hosepipe as my garden is very small.

I don't think you should worry too much, TB. I think it's more about those who waste water.

I’m not worried but I don’t want anyone on NSC shouting at their old neighbours if they see them using an irrigation system or a hosepipe, as they may be exempt.

I have a feeling I might escape any ban....

Q: have you sunk a grey water tank Aus style? Or just a spare butt? (Oo-err Mrs)

.

That's the spirit . . . If you put a sprinkler over your car all day (preferably a V8 diesel truck obvs) It not only keeps the dust off, but also stops it getting so hot in the sun you can't get in it to drive a mile tocollect a drill bit from screwfix.

I've diverted into an above ground water butt. I've been doing this in times of water shortages since the late eighties. Because a few body wash stuffs contain some phosphates, I don't water tomatoes and other edibles and my pots do not suffer any long term damage seeing as it's only normally a month with grey water. Because of such a dry year, I've actually started watering my in ground hedychiums as well as all the pots and tubs, as they're looking well stressed

Do you have some kind of diverter to switch between water butt and waste drainage when you don't need to water the garden?

When S Water announced the ban it was clearly East Sussex and Kent, east of Brighton. Such a huge region, that was the area suffering.

Lazy journalists latterly have just used the word Sussex or implying it’s a blanket ban by S Water over its entire area.

Southern Water? or South East Water? (different companies)

Yeah. me!
I cut a section out of the down pipe, use an elbow to direct into the barrel. When full/ not needed I use an orange squash bottle upside down with bottom cut off like a funnel so it goes back down the pipe. I'm in the process of designing and 3D printing a more permanent thing but haven't got round to it yet...no rush seeing as the Sussex coast is drier than the Sahara at the moment
