Shouldn't really need the striker thread this summer, should we?

Assuming Welbz and Maupay stay and with Undav coming in and goals being scored from all over the pitch I'd say we were more than covered for the way we play.

B.W.2 can probably take the summer off

Definitely do, Welbeck played well towards the end, but misses too many.

Maupay, outstanding second half, but probably not quite good enough.

Undav, big step, but hopeful, more of a Maupay replacement I would suggest.

Leaving Sima to cover Welbeck, when he inevitably gets injured, that’s Welbeck not Sima .

All very exciting…..

Do we need another striker?

I think we’re fine with numbers assuming…..

1. Welbeck
2. Maupay
3. Undav
4. Trossard

We also have half a dozen youngsters looking to make the squad plus maybe Andone and Connolly back from loan. I’m not sure if any of them will fit the bill for next season though.

However, I too am concerned about the games we’ll be playing without Welbeck. I think Ferguson or Sima would be brilliant back-ups but both are just too young. I’d like to see someone like Brereton-Diaz coming in. He has a really good all round game. I’d be quite surprised if he came though.

Hmm, we still don't have a like for like replacement for Welbeck imo and with his injury record, a player who can hold up the play and bring aerial threat would be very, very beneficial.

If Undav isn't a goal every 2 ish games striker then we're back to square one.

If he is happy days, he'll be the rising tide that floats Welbeck and Maupay.
If not, as said elsewhere, we just end up with 3 strikers missing a bazillion chances instead of the 2 we currently have.

I'd trust the recruitment team, use the extra £10m to pay over the odds (the actual market value) for their striker choice and wave goodbye to Welbeck.

This thread illustrates the lack of ambition of the so-called fans on here. We need three 20 goal a season strikers if we want to move up. Our lot didn't even get into double figures. Get rid.

This totally

Unless Trossard or Maupay leave, we will be fine. Four players chasing two spots is about right. Mitoma and Sarmiento to add to the mix.

Agree with you about Brereton-Diaz, he would be an excellent signing, strong and mobile. Maybe with Khadra going in part-exchange?

Mind you, this time last year I thought Adam Armstrong would have been worth a punt. What do I know?

We'll see if another one will come, depends a lot on what happens with Maupay. Welbeck, Undav, Maupay + another one is not realistic, someone would seriously struggle for game time.

Never like it was the main problem however. The goal production from the strikers over the last two seasons was alright and not any different from most teams. Yes, wasted a bit more chances but nothing spectacular. The big problem has been the goal production from midfielders and wing backs which unlike the goal production from the strikers has been way below average during (and before?) the GP years. But I'm quite optimistic this issue could largely be a thing of the past.

Isn't Ronaldo on his bike from Man Utd. this summer?

I'm sure he would enjoy the balmy South Coast rather than rainy Manc... :lolol:

Exactly. But once we have signed Salah and Son, it looks like we might have to settle for 18 goal Ronaldo or 17 goal Harry Kane. Maybe we need to go abroad ???

If one of Undav, Mitoma or Ferguson makes an impact joining Maupay and Welbeck. Welbeck's availability has been very good since that hamstring op where they thought they'd identified an underlying problem.

Along with Sarmiento and Trossard both able to push up and play a striker role, maybe Salah and Son will just have to wait ?

That's quite a high bar, isn't it?

From this season the 1-in-2 or better in the PL...

Salah 23 / 35
Son 23 / 35
Ronaldo 18 / 30
De Bruyne 15 / 30
Vardy 15 / 25

Some of those who didn't reach that, all of whom I suspect we'd find a place for...

Kane 17 / 37
Mane 16 / 34
Jota 15 / 35
Bowen 12 / 36
Toney 12 / 33
Raphinia 11 / 35
Antonio 10 / 36
Richarlison 10 / 30

Not convinced by Brereton-Diaz. Would prefer that bloke at Coventry that some Blackburn and WBA fans fancy going in for.

If we can afford him ............................

We may well have a unique summer window for this club as the vultures circle above Lancing already. Some of the most important business maybe new contracts for existing players.

How did Édouard get on this season?

6 goals from 28 apps. Last goal in January. Viera benched him much of the 2nd half of the season preferring Mateta and occasionally Benteke as sole striker.
Palace goals came from “non striker” (on these types of thread at least) Zaha again (14)

Next season there are 5 subs allowed so, yes, we do need another striker. Someone to what Welbeck does when he's injured, knackered or off-form.

I will do my best to wind up the NSC know-it-alls anyway
