But I fear in the cold light of day it's assault (albeit as a result of provocation) and Pat could be in trouble. I imagine that one or two former playing opponents of Vieira would testify that the fact that the fan was able to walk afterwards proves that it wasn't a serious kick.

Seriously, last week, Brentford players were complaining that Everton fans were racially abusing their families. Seems a pretty toxic culture up there still.

Should have been some security with PV. After Everton pitch invaded after the winning goal it was pretty obvious it would happen at full time, so security should have been ready to protect and escort people off the pitch.

Blackpool have been fined £50k and been given a suspended 3 point deduction for their pitch invasion. Interesting to see if the PL do anything

I am fed up of the victims being held to account for re-acting to the atrocious behaviour of thugs.

There's two separate issues:
Firstly, the fan shouldn't have been on the pitch and he appears to have, along with others, committed an offence (entering the playing area)
Secondly Vieira appears to have assaulted the fan. Possible defences could be that he feared he was going to be attacked (or that others were) so struck the first blow. Provocation is not a defence but it can be mitigation.

As for the pitch invasions, an immediate points deduction for the club(s) involved. In the case of a playoff/cup game, reversal of the result.

On another note, does anyone know why Everton are still using the "Covid" away dressing rooms? I thought the away team coming out from that corner was only a Covid precaution as their tunnel in the main stand was too tight & small for keeping a social distance? Why aren't away teams back to using the standard away dressing rooms in the main stand?

What happens when the away fans encroach, or both sets of fans, or only a few?

Never ending litigation will ensue to determine league positions.

But most of us can also see the other side - recent events creating fear for the safety of opposotion staff and players, abject failure to protect thise staff and players by Everton, and excessive goading by a complete arse who was relying on the fact that Viera wouldn't be able to react, in order to get a selfie video to show off to his mates. All of which engenders a fair amount of sympathy with Viera.

The evidence shows it is an attempted assault by Viera on a young and possibly mentally challenged individual who has encroached on the field of play.
