Clever bugger or cheating twunt? The Foul was made at the North-East corner of the box, he took the free kick from around the centre of the D. ???

They are a 1 man team. His scoring ratio of FK i believe is 1 in 2; we should've had very clear instruction not to conceed in areas JWP can score.

Yes, it’s pretty frustrating when your opposition’s main aim is to conjure up a free kick around the box. Still, you play to your strengths. It’s just a shame we don’t have many in the opposition’s half.

Both.

Although I’m more pissed off with Dunk and Cucurella’s awful defending and naivety in giving away a free kick 25 yards out to the best free kick taker in the league, a minute before half time.

Sure, but if they dont concede that free kick and the Southampton bloke runs past them (as it seemed he would) and scores, then it is all of a sudden very naive not to foul him.

The more I watch this goal the less blame I put on Sanchez. The wall however is not doing a great job and JWP obviously know a thing or two about free kicks and where there might be weaknesses in a wall, and abused it wisely. When the shot comes in a manner that shouldnt happen, it turns very difficult for Sanchez who cant see the ball until it goes past the wall.

I thought we were watching Palarse at one point the way they went down and the ref gave them everything.

.

He should never have got anywhere near the edge of the box - Dunk or Cucurella should have cleared the ball near the half wayline but both left it to each other and the player nipped in to progress to the edge of the box. With hindsight they should have let him have the shot as Sanchez probably would have saved it.

From where I was sitting in West Upper, North Stand end, it looked like the foul was committed pretty close to where it was taken. Not at all happy he scored, but it was our fault he had that opportunity, and took it...

Yep, I think the OP mixed up the earlier free-kick with the one he scored. It was in the right place.

Still uncertain whether that new law about defenders not allowed to be within 1m of the wall has ever been applied?

This is exactly right. If var checks that players don't encroach at a penalty, why can't it spot if their players are within a metre of our wall? That's what it is for, isn't it? Goal should never have been allowed.

I don’t blame Sanchez. Dreadful defending from Dunk and Cucurella to start with and then a really poor wall and flaky attempts to block the shot.
