I’m surprised our odds are as short as 100-1. Can’t see us going down. I guess the bookies need to keep it attractive in order to pull in the punters.

If we’re not safe already, then a couple of draws should suffice.

And that’s the boring reality of it all.

Agreed.

A very poor bottom half of the EPL where 34 points sees you effectively safe with a load of games still to play.

Not unusual though for the last 5 seasons. Safe being 1 point above the 18th place team's total:

2021 - 29 points safe
2020 - 35 points safe
2019 - 35 points safe
2018 - 34 points safe
2017 - 35 points safe
2016 - 38 points safe
2015 - 36 points safe
2014 - 34 points safe
2013 - 37 points safe
2012 - 37 points safe

In the last 5 seasons no relegated team has got more than 34 points.

Draw would have been the perfect result.

Everton away from home are currently dreadful. However, their home form isn't and I fully expect them to be galvanised and win at least two of those home games, if not more.

As we saw against Newcastle recently, down to ten men they still managed a victory. Leicester are easily beatable on their day and are nice opposition to face twice. And Man Utd at home this Saturday is easily winnable. Palace will be either in Cup Final mode/hangover/on the beach. With at unexpected away victory (Leics/Watford?) I fully expect them to push close to 40 points (still less than 1.5 pts per game from 9). I see plenty of points in those fixtures for a club fighting.

Burnley always survive. Beat Norwich and they'll be closing in on us with a game in hand.

Think its the new normal. Last season 31 points would have been enough and for the five or so seasons before that 34-35 pts would be enough, the "need 40 pts" thing is pretty much out the window as the difference between the top and bottom clubs is growing. Wouldnt surprise me if in 10 years or so about 15 clubs are too strong to go down while five clubs are basically in a relegation series from the get go, ending up some 20 points behind everyone else.

On a positive note Everton being in the bottom shows that FFP is doing a job right now. While Everton has spent an awful lot of money on utter shite I dont think they would be in this position if they had been allowed to spend £300m or something over the last two years rather than the less than £100m they've been allowed to spend. I do think however that it is just a matter of time before clubs (and the league itself) open up ways to circumvent FFP.

Brighton arguably also always survive... though in both cases it is obviously the case of "until they dont" as however good cockroaches and seagulls are at surviving, their long term survivability in a gourmet kitchen is presumably somewhat limited.

Burnley don’t always survive. Dyche has taken them down before.

First para - I agree with you. As the top 6 or 7 spend more and more (eg huge new CL contract coming summer 2024) hoarding more points, there are fewer points for the rest.

Everton - are cheating, the linked article in the main Everton thread reveals how they’re lying about the cost of Covid (exaggerating it by a vast sum), to mask their underlying rule breaking spend.

Thankfully they’ve wasted £600m on a pile of shit + Richarlison.

A definite pattern.

My theory … the disparity in club spending power and some mega clubs have really got their act together eg Liverpool.

Circa 8 years ago the likes of Stoke, WBA and Burnley seemed to chalk up in-ya-face bruising wins at the weekend, against teams knackered from playing/travelling midweek in Europe.

Making a distinction between Richarlison and the rest is correct, I think. He may not be brilliant at tracking back but he seemed to be the only Everton player who showed anything like the desire and intensity required last night.

I'd love to see how many Evertonians are posting like this on their forums. :lolol:

Unlikeable (he’s that type of personality/player) but he’s an irritatingly dangerous forward and he knows how to bury pens!

I can see him shining in a far better team in Spain or here.

I'm sure I'm not the only one getting rather fed up of a particular statistic when listening to Everton games on the wireless, as was the case last night, and I imagine it's mentioned in TV commentaries also. There are a few variants, but it boils down to the same thing...

"Everton have only won away once in the league this season, beating Brighton back in August."

"Everton have not won away in the league since beating Brighton in August."

I'd counter that with Everton's supposed decent home record includes losing to Brighton in January.

Same as Burnley, they didn't both exactly 'fluke' the wins either.

My points prediction.
Saudi utd 43
Leeds 40
Burnley 38
Brentford 37
Brighton 35
Watford 35
Everton 34
Norwich 18

Point against Southampton is vital, looking at all our fixtures I cannot see us gaining any more unless we can pick up our form and maybe M.utd at home or Leeds away will result in a points gain for us.

Definitely not over yet but we are seriously in a battle to retain our status. (IMHO)

Always the pessimist me !

Admittedly late in the day, but I went on this thread thinking it would be all about taking the piss out of Everton.

So you think we wikll get another seven points and end the season on 41? We have to score those things called goals before we can even start to achieve that.

I would like to think that we can - if we can't then next season will be hopeless as i can't see the squad being greatly enhanced over the summer.

We are playing for 24 points against a range of teams so 7 points shouldn't be unachievable and I say that given we have taken only 1 in 21 on current run, but that can't continue surely. I remember the 12 consecutive defeats in 1972/3... we've stop the run so now we need to progress.
