He is EXACTLY (literally, the same day) the same age as Aaron Connolly, and has a near identical top division record.

Abel Ruiz - born 28.01.2000, league appearances (Barca / Braga) 45, goals 6
Connolly - born 28.01.2000, league appearances (Brighton) 45, goals 5

Upgrade on Connolly then, obviously. Scored more goals ..........................

If only we had highlight reel, wiki, Transfermarkt, GILF, Scrabble score, FIFA ranking, pronunciation guide...

...we could make a considered opinion.

Re : His goalscoring record

Blindingly obvious that you don't sign a 21 year old striker on what they have done in the past, rather on what they have the potential to do in the future.

If anyone thinks we're in the market for strikers with proven experience of challenging at the top of the goalscoring charts in their countries, they haven't been paying much attention.

That said, we already have a decent number of "might come to something, give them a year or two on loan, punts" of that age, in that position, (as well as one we may stand a decent chance of signing from USG). How many could we actually give game time to? I think if we're signing a forward, it should be someone we're looking to play now, or someone we're more confident in than our current players out on loan.

Newcastle are said to be furious there's a player they've not put a bid in for and fully expect him to sign unless the player realises he will be playing Division 2 football next season.

His record says he’s a forward that doesn’t goals. That vacancy is already filled.
BTW Those two Spanish caps were when the entire Spanish first team was unavailable.
So not on genuine merit.

Several comparisons on here to Connolly. If AC was English, how far down the pecking order would he be in strikers before he was called up? Be a hell of a lot of Covid cases that's for sure.

No expert on Spanish football but I'd assume they'll have about the same number of strikers in their Divs.

The fact he was even in the squad shows the manager saw something.

Don't know the bloke, never seen him play, but I'd not dismiss him because the only reason he played for Spain was because of Covid.

Might also know Sanchez from the Spanish setup

His first cap may have come when the Spain Euros squad had to isolate for the friendly against Lithuania, Cucurella also made his full Spain debut in that match. However he was then called up again for the September World Cup qualifiers, alongside our own Robert Sanchez (who could maybe have a word too) and made his second appearance in that run of games, playing the full 90 mins against Georgia. He was an unused sub in the other two games.

No expert on Spanish football either!
It would be nice if we signed a striker who had a half decent scoring rate though.
I guess it all comes down to the fee. Much over £10m looks like pretty average value going by his record.
