Can someone put up table after 19 games last season. I think last season we got about 25 points from last 19 games. To achieve same again this season would leave us in an interesting position

Was having this debate with a Brentford season ticket holding relative after our win against them where he was lamenting the loss of their keeper for a prolonged period as to why marginal results were going against them (I reminded him there was nothing marginal about our result) and how he felt like it was time for them to start looking over their shoulder.

We settled on thinking it almost impossible for the bottom three to exceed 32 points as that was effectively doubling their performance level over the second half of the season which is incredibly hard to do and that therefore 30-32 would be the survival margin.

After today's results I think Leeds will pull away to finish on 35-40 once they get their players back. Burnley might well have finally not enough. Norwich are gone and that it therefore was between Newcastle and Watford for the final spot. I think if you're a mid table team in transition such as Everton (being kind to them) then it's a 'good' year to have a bad year and get away with it.

3 more wins to stay up. 19 games to play.

And to think some absolute divs STILL want Potter sacked. And all because they don’t understand modern football, and how the game has moved on. Thank Christ we aren’t owned by some of the owners in the league who have no long term plan and would have panicked and pulled the trigger.

Looking forward to the next Potter Out thread when we dare to lose a couple of games on the trot again, in the most competitive league on the planet (in which we are two places outside the top 6).

If you think we need three more wins to stay up, you don't understand modern football. Feel free to bounce at the end of the season.

36 points to stay up has been enough in almost every season in the last 15 years. Tell me what that has to do with modern football? Last year 29 was enough. That would be 2 more draws.

I’m really keen to hear more.

1, yes, 36 has been enough but, then again, so has 99. What's 36 got to do with it?
2, you said three more wins were needed to stay up, which also ignores any potential draws.
3, you were also the one that brought up the issue of people "not understanding modern football".

1. 99 seems like an awful lot.
2. Yes. So three more wins would take us to a minimum of 36, and with another 19 spare games you would assume we would pick up at least a couple of draws, taking us to a minimum of 38. How many times in the last 15 years has 38 points not been enough?
3. See point 2.

Just a quick question but as far a I recall we have never been in the bottom three of the EPL. However I think we were top once for about two mins but for VAR.

We've only been in the bottom 3 once, after two games of our very first PL season. The draw against Watford in our third game was enough to climb out of the bottom 3 and we've never been back since.

We briefly went top when Lewis Dunk scored against Southampton in the 19-20 season before VAR ruled it out for offside against Dan Burn.

I don't want to seem over confident but if we can match Norwich's form for the first half of the season and grab ourselves 10 more points we should be fine

Burnley look so un-Burnley like this season. Without that they don’t have much.

Agree. Plus Hennessy in goal instead of Pope isn’t doing much for their cause. Pope must be worth 7-10 points a season for them.

Dyche is a dinosaur of a manager. He has done well to keep them up on his small budget, but at some point, the lack of investment and his lack of skills to adapt the way they play will be found out.

Looks like this season is it.
