Cardiff had 42 players out on Saturday ... they played a load of kids, someone who'd retired and the groundsman

Munster had 34 players out ... and still beat Wasps with a bunch of kids!

Football's far too precious

There is more (money) at stake.

But allowing clubs like Spuds to basically bully the league to allow a game to be postponed is wrong. As Bozza pointed out, the quarantine rule is 10 or 14 day's after a positive test (HMG keep changing their 'rules' but it will be one or the other) and yet Spuds are bound to be back in action before that. In the words of every player who gets a decision against them, how?

With a 'tidal wave' or 'tsunami' of infections incoming this won't be the last game to be postponed. Unless the league get tough I think post xmas there will be more games off than on. Surely with a 25 man squad it is fairly simple in that if you have enough available players in your first team squad to fill the starting 11 and bench then the game goes ahead.

In Portugal, Belenenses played Benfica the same week we drew with Leeds.

Due to COVID, they played with 9 players - including one Goalkeeper outfield - and were 7-0 down at Half time (Nunez scored a hat trick)

That's the sort of game I'd tune into Sky Sports to watch in the Premier League

Our Hectic xmas schedule isn't looking quite as hectic after all

Don’t you believe it! The PL and TV companies have rearranged the following Albion fixtures :

December 24th - 8.00 pm kick off. Man Utd (A)

December 25th - 2.00 pm kick off. Tottenham (H)

December 26th - 9.00 pm kick off (revised from 8.00 pm). Brentford (H)

December 29th - (kick off TBA). Chelsea (A)

The PL and TV companies are now in consultation with the relevant transport providers to ensure that no services will be available before and after each fixture.

Merry F***ing Christmas!! Ho! Ho! Ho!

Rugby brought in a rule that if you couldn't field a side because of Covid you forfeited the match & the match is awarded to the opposition so now they play the kids if they can. Think it was an incentive for clubs to try & make sure they followed all the protocols & reduced the risk to squads. Not going to happen in football, as others say too much money involved plus they think they are so precious wouldn't want to just give 3 points away.

It is embarrassing for the PL that there are no clear rules on when a game can be postponed or not. It needs to be done, now.

Personally I think that if you have 14 players available, the game should be on. Yes it might be unfair bla bla, but the world is unfair... sometimes teams have a lot of injuries while others have none, that is also "unfair" but the show goes on and it should be the same thing with covid.

Or you could go totally the other way and say that the clubs have to prove they are 100% covid free among the playing staff for a week before the game to get it on, to reduce the chances of clubs transmitting to each other and incentive the clubs to have rigorous controls in place.

Either way, a tonne of games are going to get abandoned and we're playing football all summer

It’s 100 percent down to the league not putting rules in place.

There is a massive gray area after Fulham bullied the league when they had cases last season.

This is what should happen (with an extra rule around keepers) they get a pass for the second half of the postponed season.

But it should have been in place from last year

Hopefully this isn't just a big club get out and if we have the same issues at a later date we receive the same response and are not expected to field a team

I just got an email reminding students that they have to come in tomorrow to give presentations. The email says "Please take a lateral flow test if possible to keep you, your peers and staff safe ahead of the holiday season".

What the actual ****? What if they don't, won't, can't, shan't or get a positive test and decide the session is more important than 'keeping people safe'?

This country seems to have been brainwashed by the libertarian cult now 'running' the country. Everybody has the right to do what they want, when they want, it seems, and employers, governing bodies etc., are playing constant catch up with rules and requirements, like headless chickens in thrall to the mad pied piper at number 10.

If I were Potter now I would be taking a hard look at our injuries and thinking "I can tell the EPL we have as many players with Covid as Spuds did and I can get some games called off till we have fewer players out injured. The EPL can't do anything other than agree because player medical status is confidential."

I’m pretty sure you need proof, but yes - Brighton could do that - If they did get found out doing that I would think a points deduction would follow.

You seem to think it’s benefitted Spurs somehow? Spurs have done the responsible thing here.

Even worse the rules in domestic events don’t match up.

If Spuds put a team together for the weekend, when the very same players who triggered the postponement against us should still be isolating, then I would say they are faking and cheating and the EPL are incompetent. If their game at the weekend is called off then I will accept your point and give Spuds due acknowledgement.

At Brighton, The Athletic has learned there has been no spike in cases within the playing squad but cases among club staff had risen to double digits within the space of seven days, despite the COVID-secure office environment.

Well doesn’t that depend?

2 missed the Norwich game because tested positive - so that’s 2 back for a start.

When did they others test positive?

There are 2 more positives today.

Actually, no, you're right. Makes it all very hard to oversee with no decision rubric, though.

My Villa supporting relative has said they've had a covid outbreak in their squad too. This is all starting to get very messy.
