I’ve only been saying this since Jan 2020!! If we are looking for an ‘affordable’ Murray replacement from within the EPL then he’s our man.

I wonder how close he is to Lallana?

He's contracted to Liverpool until 2024, so they'll want a decent fee for him AND his wages are rumoured to be £60K a week. That's a lot to play for a striker who highest league return in a single season is 8 league goals for Lille 7 years ago.

That's not an Albion signing, more like Leeds, West Ham, Wolves, Newcastle.

There are players on our books who are on more than that. If we’re not willing to pay £60k pw for our main striker then we may as well go back down and let another team have a crack.
Every media outlet reports that he is out of contract in June 2022.
He virtually never starts for Liverpool so goal return over a time period is irrelevant. He’s got the same strike rate as Maupay in 25% less matches (if you compare minutes on the pitch)

Been saying this the one for a while now.

It’s still an absolute yes from me, although I fear the ACN impact to Liverpool will stop this happening in January 22

I'm not saying the club isn't willing to pay £60K a week for a player, I'm saying £60K a week for a player with his historic output is a huge gamble for a club with the financial resources of the Albion. He has never done it week in, week out for Liverpool, Lille or Wolfsberg. He was an average striker that Klopp converted into a specialist bench player with devastating results.

His goals to minutes in the EPL is very impressive. A goal every 162 minutes is a top 10 striker in my book. Added to his age, he’d deserve to be at the top of our salary scale in my opinion (Note: Newcastle could easily offer him triple that if they wanted him).

Liverpool.com reported on 13 Nov 21: Yet Origi’s contract doesn’t expire until the summer of 2024, and the player is thought to be happy playing for the club and living in the city. It may come to a point where Liverpool would have to accept a smaller transfer fee than what they hoped an Origi auction would fetch, simply to get him off the books.

We would presumably have to up his wages from whatever they are in order to sign him.

If he is out of contract in the summer, you'd imagine a hefty signing on fee and tear inducing agent payment would be likely

I've got no opinion on whether he would be good value for money, because I don't know what he is on (and I don't believe rumours about wages) or what we would offer him. TB and Barber have to work that stuff out

An opinion I do have is that he would significantly improve our squad

I am quite impressed with Wigans Callum Lang only 23 I think he might fit the bill and worth a punt for not a lot of money

Does seem odd - when he signed a contract in 2019 even the official Liverpool website didn't say how long for - nor did any other press at the time. Seems to be a consensus that it does run out this summer - but a few sites saying his deal was 5 years. So who knows?

Brighton factually.....

We have too many punts on the books, still in the squad and out on loan....
We need the next level, not a punt similar to what we already have, khadra is playing at a higher level already than the boy from Wigan.

Isn't Khadra a midfielder ?

If Liverpool are going to let Origi go and he’s staying within the Prem we’d be silly not to consider a bid. Him holding up the ball and winning the flick ons for Maupay/Trossard/Connolly etc feels like a combo that could work.

60K a week isn't a lot if he gets you goals that allow you to finish top six
Premier League payout will cover that wage and more if we stay top ten and maybe even higher at the end of a season.
I've been banging on about him for ages as well.
Fits our style of play and knows where the onion bag is.

Do you think he'll take a move for the same wages? Even £70k a week is a lot - and like Potter says you can't just bring a player in on big wages, because you'll then have other members of the squad queueing up with their agents for a pay rise

Strikers command the wages.

With clubs like Newcastle probably splashing the cash, Leeds maybe being bought out, there's little chance of getting him for £60 or even 70k p/w. West Ham are a likely interested party and they won't baulk at £100k+ for a player they want.

Not saying we shouldn't try, but to get him we'll have to pay market rates and be prepared to tell those other players who want a rise that they've already signed their deals.

All this makes sense, but what if there are clauses re wage parity for our bigger 'stars'? (I have no clue if we do or don't BTW)
