Every year around this time, one club or another is hit by a spate of injuries, and the ridiculous fixture list means that teams have to manage without players for many more matches than would normally be the case. This then means other injuries occur as players have to play carrying knocks and then make minor injuries worse. As a result teams are effectively "punished" for having injuries . This year it seems its Brighton.

There is no real need for teams to have to play 10 games in a month, its perfectly possible to spread the games much more evenly throughout the season. Maybe have one week a month with a mid week game

The Christmas fixtures that the TV companies love so much could still take place with Boxing Day Games and New Years games but the crazy run of 10 games in 4 weeks or whatever it is could easily be stopped

The European clubs (AFAIK) dont do it and manage to firt the games in-so why do we?

You sometimes get some silly red cards and yellows leading to a ban for those that want Christmas off.
Not sure that happens so much these days in the PL but it was always suspicious.
We are in no position for any of those capers.

I think he was implying that the TV companies can still show a billion games, but spread out and if the games are not on TV they don’t need to be played. The TV companies still get their fill but each team would have fewer games spread out more evenly without the need to be congested.

Yes, and West Ham's problems seem pretty similar to ours: defenders (Zouma, Ogbonna, Johnson, Creswell).

There's always been the Chirstmas/New year busy period, but it's not normally this busy this early in the month, is it? Isn't it because of the international calender? The moving of the Euros because of covid interrupted the qualifying for the World Cup, which has led to more international fixtures in during the season.

Leeds also have a centre-back crisis.

Already without Robin Koch, they lost Liam Cooper to injury yesterday - replaced him in-game with Phillips, who himself later went off injured.

Absolutely. Hate those international breaks.

The intensity of this fixture congestion unfairly inflates the impact of any minor injuries, what once may have been a simple one or two game absence for a knock may instead mean a three or four game being missed due to the constant turnover of fixtures. It's ridiculous.

It's worth pointing out that all our injured players apart from (Trossard who had a freak fall) haven't been playing international football and so have had several two week breaks in the last few months. Annoyingly, this hasn't prevented them getting injured so we can;t blame the international breaks for that

We also haven't got into the busy winter schedule yet. They've only played one midweek game, so can't really blame international breaks for the injuries that happen.

You may not like international breaks, but I don't see that it has anything to do with the current spate of injuries

Annoyingly, this hasn't prevented them getting injured so we can;t blame the international breaks for that

You may not like international breaks, but I don't see that it has anything to do with the current spate of injuries

The international breaks are partly responsible for the fixture congestion in December that amplifies the effect of any injuries that you have sustained going into that period, not the cause of the injuries themselves.
