• Goldson Set To Boost Albion Defensive Depth

Shrewsbury Town centre-back Connor Goldson looks set to add further depth to Albion's defence.

The 22-year old had been widely expected to join QPR, and was a late withdrawal from the Shropshire side's 2-1 defeat to Chesterfield last night. However a fee is believed to have been agreed with the Albion with Goldson travelling down for a medical and to agree personal terms.

Goldson appeared fifty-one times for Shrewsbury last year, and his dominant performances at the back led him to being named in the PFA League Two Team of the Year. Like Lewis Dunk, he also make his height tell at the other end of the pitch, and he netted seven times for Town over the course of the last campaign.

These performances caught the eyes of many clubs. Leeds were widely linked with him earlier this Summer and Swindon Town are believed to have had a six-figure fee rejected.

A heady 1m valuation would dissuade many League one suitors, but would not be beyond the means of many Championship clubs.

As with the signing of Uwe Hunemeier, Albion fans will be wondering what this means for the future of Lewis Dunk with the club. After a man-of-the-match performance in the 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest to open the Championship season, Dunk has sat out of each of the three games since.

    Discussion: Connor Goldman

Goldson's arrival may also mean Glen Rea could be on the move, if only temporarily. The 20-year-old made his full debut in the Capital One Cup last week, but could be set for a loan move in order to gain more first team experience. Yeovil Town could be where he features next.

Development squad centre-back Tom Dallison has joined National League club Braintree on a one-month loan deal, slotting straight into the side for the 2-1 victory at Bromley last night.
