It's not all bad though, and here's why:
1. Wigan didn't win.
That's another 2 points dropped by one of this season's promotion favourites, who are now nearing the Mission: Impossible stage of their battle to avoid the drop. They are 9 points behind Albion with a massively inferior goal difference. One more precious win for Chris Hughton's men will mean it's only Millwall who could overhaul us.
2. Beram Kayal
The January capture from Celtic looks like being a real decent bit of business. It is no coincidence that Albion conceded after he'd limped out of the game.
The Israeli international looks set to be the highly influential lynchpin of Albion's midfield next season.
3. Dale Stephens
After his long-term absence through injury the ex-Charlton man is now making a real impact and, on another night, could have fired the Albion into the lead. Although the club didn't announce it, he picked up the Albion Man of the Match award.
4. Next up: Huddersfield
With a run of tricky games, the Huddersfield home fixture has long stood out as THE one the Albion will be expecting to win. Going into today's visit to Nottingham Forest, the Terriers are three points better off than the Albion and would expect to be safe. If Millwall fail to beat Watford today, Tuesday night should represent the opportunity to banish any lingering relegation fears.
5. Not much more Leon Best time left
There is a good player in there somewhere, but Albion fans have yet to see it. Collective groaning greeted the announcement of the team to face Bournemouth, which revealed that it was Leon Best's turn to be Albion's non-scoring striker.
With a mere four games to go, it is surely inconceivable that Chris Hughton would make a move for the man who has not scored a single goal in 31 appearances for Derby and Albion this season.
Let's reflect on some of those words: striker, 31 appearances, no goals.
6. This season is nearly over
Assuming the Albion do stumble over this season's finishing line above the relegation dotted line, Albion fans will quickly try to forget the season where so much positive momentum seems to have been lost. It wasn't meant to be like this.
The sun has come out and the cricket season starts tomorrow with Sussex nicely placed for a good year.
Chris Hughton will have a whole Summer to get in place the sort of squad that will be challenging at the right end of the Championship when we all get together again in August.
