• Palace could thwart Albion, again

Crystal Palace have moved quickly to address concerns with falling into the bottom three of the Premier League as a result of their lacklustre defeat at home to Southampton on Boxing Day.

Neil Warnock has become the first Premier League managerial casualty of the season and with the January transfer window about to begin, Palace's move could kick-start the managerial merry-go-round into action, which could thwart the Albion's wishes to make a swift appointment.

BetVictor have immediately installed Warnock as 8/1 fifth favourite to be Tony Bloom's next selection, but this move is highly unlikely with the club already working through their short-list of preferred candidates as news of Warnock's dismissal broke.

The greater impact in the Albion's hunt is to be the overlap between the managers favoured by both clubs. When it comes to a beauty pageant, the Premier League is always likely to win out over the Championship. Additionally, Warnock's dismissal could trigger a domino effect in the Premier League as club's face up to a New Year fight for survival. Leicester and West Bromwich Albion are both believed to be considering similar shake-ups.

Tony Pulis may well be the Albion's number one target at this time, and although a return to Selhurst Park seems unlikely after the manner in which his last stint terminated, he may prefer to wait for another Premier League appointment, now that panic season seems to be upon us.

Chris Hughton is another name believed to be high on Bloom's list, but a chance to work again in the Premier League would surely be his preferred route back into the game.

Tim Sherwood, another name linked with the Abion, is the early favourite with the bookies to be the next man to have to work with Steve Parish.

Prior to Warnock's dismissal, NSC expected Albion to have a new man in place before the Brentford FA Cup tie on January 3rd. Time will only tell if that is still to be the case.
