• Lenihan moves closer to Cork exit

UPDATE: Cork City have confirmed they have accepted an offer for Lenihan from an unnamed club. Independent sources state that the Albion are that club.

Readers of this column will have been following the progress of Cork City's highly rated right-back Brian Lenihan. Having been watched by a number of clubs, Lenihan was looking set for a move to Premier League Hull City. Over recent days the Albion have emerged as favourites to win his signature.

Lenihan is due to make his final appearance for Cork City on Friday evening in a FAI Cup clash against Bohemians, before making his expected move across the Irish Sea.

Sources in Ireland are reporting the Albion have offered in the region of 200,000 for the 20-year old with another club, likely to be Hull, offering a similar deal.

Ultimately it may come down to Lenihan himself to determine which club offers him the best prospects of continuing a rapid development that has seen him feature in for the Republic of Ireland U-21s. At Hull he would likely be slotted straight into their development squad. At the Albion Lenihan would be behind Spaniards Calderon and Bruno in the pecking order, although the latter has been played in a midfield role by Sami Hyypia, and an impressive performance against Leeds may see that continue.

Lenihan has also played in midfield during his younger days and that flexibility might give him greater first team squad opportunities in Sussex than he would get on Humberside.

The Lenihan saga is going to come to a close in coming days, and we will know whether the Seagulls have secured a player who has been compared to Everton's Seamus Coleman, who followed a similar path from the League of Ireland.

Hull don't have our world class training facilities for young prospects, My guess is, that should persuade him.

I doubt it will be that Gully. In advance of the Academy getting up to speed though, this is the type of player we should be looking at. Potential that we can work with.

You really do read it here first. I've been suckered in by the hype and hope we can pull this deal off now. Sami's style is becoming a lot more defined now, and both Lenihan and Bennet seem to fit his bill.

You'd think in the Argus Naylor would at least be able to copy and paste the price correctly as 200,000 Euro rather than pounds!
